My future father in law is thinking of buying a MGB GT as a run around. He doesnt know a lot about them so wondered if anyone of here had any experience of what to look out for. Any constructive advice much appreciated.

I have a feeling there may have been a buying guide for one in Octane a few months back, I've left the magazines at my parents house for my dad to read through, but I'll double check when I'm back if you like?

Buy an RS Focus and join the dreamers, or buy an MG and join the do-ers. smile

And I believe that Moss do some very interesting performance upgrades too. Aren't they SC'able now?

No worries Jim.

I'm pretty sure there was a buying guide... I don't think I'm imagining things in my old age! hehe
If there's anything MGB related in them, I'll bring them back for him. I don't need them. smile

I've got a Focus RS, am I a dreamer? do you get a dreamer badge and a life long subscription to the club when you buy a FRS?

At least your be safe in the knowledge that I will be on the road (dreaming) whilst you in the MGB will be sanding down, filling, sighting oil leaks - ohh and "dreaming" of driving it one day!

No way, if you own a B the amount of events you can enter is breathtaking http://www.mandh-photography.co.uk/events/EastAngl...
whereas with an RS you are a bit stuck with pretend events biggrin

Wow Im left breathless by that video, never thought a MGB could be so much fun, I bet the MG owners club is a riot.....

Badgest are we? I've just looked at your sig, should of known you'd be a Porsche owner (you guys never cease to amaze me, definately a special breed!)
So whatever you think my friend, I personally have never attended an event like the afore mentioned, however I do many track days which is what the car is made for, maybe one day I may meet you on track in your hairdressers car? I take great pleasure in overtaking Porsche's wink

There is always someone that loves to slate them but I had one for 8 years and was gutted when i had to let it go. Having said that i still see it regularly and can see the new owner playing the never ending rust game. They are a doddle to work on with no problems with parts even for a mechanical retard like me. Might be worth buying him a club membership for xmas (MGOC)very helpful but more for the older crowd.

As with most things it all depends on how much he has to spend but just to play devils advocate you can always try and talk him into something a bit more interesting? Bought my TVR S for same money as an average GT and is a lot more fun and wouldn't swap it for an MG now and it doesn't rust...except the chasis??
