petrol pipe size

has anyone changed the petrol pipe from the tank to the engine on a v6 2.9 engine if so can they please confirm the pipe dia, thanks kev

Do you mean the flexible pipe from the bottom of the tank to the fuel pump - if so, I have a 16mm ID armoured one on mine.

Please make sure the hose is suitable for unleaded petrol otherwise it could soften and you would have a very 'gunked' up fuel system.

Adrian Venn, Exactly TVR was attempting to source suitable hose, might be worth a quick ring, it needs to be hard walled (so its not sucked flat by the pump) and armoured due to its vunerable location

Just bought the hard walled reinforced pipe. I got it from an hydraulic pipe specialist in Essex. It is all stamped up with the rights nos. and it was not too expensive. If you have trouble sourcing let me know and I will check if they would do mail order, if not I can get a length and send it off for you.

The fuel takes the route:
Tank -> Pump -> Filter -> Engine.
I was having problems with muck in the tank clogging the pump inlet hence fitting the inline filter. The screen in the bottom of the tank was pretty useless on mine.

I have since sorted out my tank problems (rust) but am happy to have the filter to protect the pump.

Some other folk have one fitted too.

If you fit a filter before the pump make sure it's a big, coarse low restriction one. A normal filter (especially some of the smaller ones sold as pre-filters) have too much restriction and can lead to cavitation. It may only happen when the fuel level is low and everything is hot, but it's something you really want to avoid.

thanks for all your replys, the pipe that i will be changing will be the long fuel pipe to the engine,not sure if this is 1/4 dia =6mm or 5/16,= 8mm, the pipe i have removed appears to be 7.5mm inside dia ,is this a streched 1/4 pipe or an under sized 5/16 ,which do i order ??? kev

mine (1990 S3) is 8mm od. Not metal, its a kinda hard semi flexible plastic ?

ETA if in doubt always go bigger, can't have too much petrol ! (but may have trouble getting correct end fittings)
