I've tried the Chilli and the pork meatballs when they were on special offer at Waitrose.

Both were very tasty with a homemade feel but the large pack size disguises the fact that they only contain 300g.
I'd get them again for half price but wouldn't pay the full price tbh.

I think it was Meatballs I tried once - All good, did not taste plastic.

Curious as it has a long shelf life but without need for Refrigeration and has no preservatives.
I assume vaccum packed no?

We used to keep a few in the cupboard for times when I'm on my own and can't be bothered to cook or defrost anything.

I've had the rabbit one, the pork meatballs and the mutton stew.

The meatballs were OK, but nothing to write home about, the rabbit had slightly too much elderflower in it, but was otherwise OK and the mutton stew was really rather nice.

For ready meals they're head and shoulders above most, but as someone above says, they're quite stingy portions and not a patch on something you'd cook yourself. As a result we invested in a bigger freezer and now freeze leftovers from big homemade stews and casseroles which are far nicer.

I might buy some of these for when I cant be arsed to cook (Which is about 50% of the time)..
300g is more than enough for sauces (Chili, spag bol, etc). £1.99 isn't bad either.

Had Lamb shank in a nice pub once, and thought how do they do it, how do they know how many customers they're going to get today (that want lamb shank). Anyway was told they buy them as above, so got the landlord to get me a box of them.

Microwave for 7mins, cut open the plastic wrap, chuck on a plate, with some veg. and you are a master chef. nom nom nom. (the lamb shanks in red wine sauce, or mint sauce are great, but a little fatty).

Does anyone know how long the offer is valid for?
I would like to try them for that price for the days I can't be arsed to cook. If the offer is valid for a week that would be great coz then I could save the delivery cost by picking it up from their depo.

I tried these with mixed results, (the sampler pack). I think it was 5 meals and three soups, two of the three soups very nice, (tomato and cheviot the best, with pea and ham next) but the chicken soup is truly god awful! taste free, under seasoned (read NO seasoning) and meant to have lemon tyme in it, I could tast absolutely nothing at all, just warm water! I managed to bolster it up with some salt and pepper, some Brats Lemongrass in a jar, garlic salt and some fresh tyme and rosemary fromthe garden, and it was eddible!

As for the meals, well all pretty good, the meatballs (pork) wiht butterbeans is quite spicy, the best I think was the beef and potato dinner. I found will aall it was best to add a few frozen veg in the micro with them as as previously mentioned, the portions are not massive, but the beef and potato with some cauli, brocoli, carrots and peas from the feezer was pretty damned good!
Chilli was ok, it comes with rice so is a small portion, if it was just chilli and you could add rice it would be pretty good.

So all in all, I think pretty high quality stuff and some real little gems in there, (tom and cheviot soup is very good). I was thinking the chicken soup could have been a bad batch, it was so bad, and the rest of the stuff is pretty tasty, so I may email them to mention it and see if they want to send me another to try in case! But we figured we may order some more, 10% off first proper order, and if you buy a fair ammount the price comes down and delivery is not so noticeable. You could nto live off them all the time, but one or two a week, with a few additions and it adds a bit of variety to what we can find to be a "samey" diet, due mainly to having to consider a 2 year old each time we eat!!

I use their stuff when I go camping/fishing - they are fanastic convenience food to tip into a saucepan.

Its gets lots of envious comments from the Pot Noodle contingent. biggrin
