It really riles me when an article like this crops up.
Physical abuse is abhorant, but who reckons the reaction will be laws limiting our freedom of speech even further.

The 53-year-old businesswoman says she was sitting in an almost empty train carriage in the early evening when she was kicked, punched and shouted at for taking up two seats.

Her attacker was pulled off by another passenger and restrained, but got off at the next stop before the police arrived.

It might surprise some people that the person doing the kicking and punching was a middle-aged woman, who was also travelling alone.
Pardon me, but -----> rofl

"The unprovoked attack was not an isolated incident, say weight equality campaigners" - surely if the weight were equal there wouldn't be any "fattism"....................

So mental abuse is OK then? And as asked on a certain other thread - what about my freedom to not be abused by others?

Oh, I shan't bother waiting for an answer on that one shall I....?

It is indeed a choice. But if I choose not to lose weight, why should I have to put up with abuse??

Not my point, the article elduded to "fatism", thus making a comparison to racism, ageism etc etc, these are not choices so cannot be compared to being fat.

Were does it stop then? I get abused for my accent. Should there be "voicism" laws? No that would be stupid.

I get abused for being a geek. Should there be "geekism" laws No that would be stupid.

Abusing and attacking people on the street is not acceptable for any reason, making special laws to make it a more serious crime if someone is fat is unbelievable stupid. I also disagree with the term 'Hate Crimes' I believe that if you attack someone you should receive the same punishment no matter what the motivation.

It may not have been your point, but if so it was pretty damn hard to deduct from your post. As it happens, now that you've explained it, it looks like we agree. I think the abuse it totally unacceptable, and I also think making laws to try and eradicate it is ricidulous. People just need to behave, but I guess that's too much to ask eh?

It's good we agree, I was just annoyed that people were comparing weight to race in terms of discrimination and it's affect.
