Car Ramps

I have just recieved today some car ramps that I ordered.
I have been looking for sometime on Ebay etc for some . I wanted long ones with a gentle slope that would fit under the Chim.
I did 'win' some a while ago on Ebay and paid for, them but to cut a long story short I was scammed but I got my money back by getting the police involved.

Any way I found this other guy who will make them to order and to your spec and size.
The spec I ordered were 34cm x 34cm x 175cm and painted and delivered they worked out very reasonable.

If you speak to James he can build them any size and with TVR Logo welded on on them if you wish. He also can make them with a jack on each one at the high flat end so you can lift the car further if needs be.

I didnt know this at the time I ordered mine as I probably would have ordered them like this - not too much extra

mine are the long Blue ones.

Others are samples. James can make any size/spec you require.

Just out of interest, what do you call 'reasonable'?

I paid £80 , I could have paid £10 less and not have had them painted

Looked into these and have now ordered a set. Look to be the D's B's,. However, I will post a report when I have tried them out.

I've got a set similar to these. The only problem is access to the sides of the car is restricted (can't get to the outriggers very well). It would be nice if the ramp section was removable. I think I'll have a word with the local blacksmith. to see if he can modify them.

You can always jack one side up a little more and either use an axle stand or turn the ramp around the other way to get at the outriggers.

nice job, love those red ones with jacks built in , they look as if the jack section comes apart, need a chock to lock up but look very well made etc

Thats what I've been doing (Axle stands). Reversing the ramps is a good idea. Unfortunately I don't have the room.

I would lovge to get a proper 4 post lift, but don't have the room. I was thinking these are probably the next best thing.

I think they look really good good if you dont have much room to work.

I think 2 post ramps are better than 4, i have a 4 post where i store my tvr which i handy but 2 post the wheels and areas are free to work at as the suspension hangs down.

Got a set from CJ Autos. Great piece of kit. What an amount of lift you get!!! Really good for a FB like me to get under and work painlessly.
Basically they are a set of collapsible ramps, which you connect to a hydraulic footpump. You them pump them up to full height ~16" and then swing a locking mechanism into place. The pipes and pump can then be removed.
Let-down is the opposite of pump-up, connect the pump, pressure up, lift them off the lock ,swing out the lock and de-pressure.
On complaint might be they are a tad heavy, but given the advantages I can live with that.

I suppose you could get two sets and run both back and front onto them at the same time and then lift the entire car?

That would be a good option. The ramps collapse to a height of ~5" therefore it is quite easy to drive (or push!!) the car onto them.
I had to push mine on. Their first outing was to fit a new battery and one of the battery box bolts was spinning in the fibreglass, so needed to get under with the trusty angle grinder.

Thanks for that. At least I know they will fit under the Chim. Which is the lowest car I have that I will be working on.

I would ideally love any a two post lift, but garage space (mainly height) is limited so thought these may be the next best thing. I have axle stands for the wheel off jobs.

I have a set of the normal type ramps, but I find them a little awkward to use, I'm always worried about driving too far on them, so these seemed better.

Do you loose any hydraulic fluid when you take the pipes off?

That was my first thought when I saw these ramps. I chose the cheap option and knocked up some extension parts to fit to the old ramps that I had because they wouldn't fit under the front of my S3.
Once on the ramp I can remove the extensions and I place the offside one in the drivers footwell so that I don't forget to refit them before reversing off the ramps.

I have just spoken to CJ auto's regarding the hydraulic ramps. They are currently all sold out until Jan.
However, there may be a possiblity of a group buy discount in the new year if there is enough interest.
