mini mac lossless external dac or optical input on amp

Hi I have a mini mac playing lossless music into phono input on a stereo amp. Can anyone recommend a DAC to improve the sound before the amp or am I better of running an optical feed to a new amp. Any recommendations on amp / DAC (only running stereo) budget about £200. Many thanks in advance.

The Cambridge Audio Dacmagic has won several accolades including product of the year. It's slightly over £200.

You're playing into the phono input? Try plugging into one of the other inputs before spending any money

Although the Cambridge DACMagic, Beresford DAC or Musical Fidelity V-DAC are the obvious choices for a DAC.
