So, FM3 has me thinking of upgrading my HDD...

Hi all
I've recently (like all of you it seems) got involved with FM3. So, the pitiful 20GB HDD in the 360 is just nowhere near enough. So, i see you can buy a 120GB drive from ebay, then i presume some sort of cable to do the transfer with? I'm reading on the xbox site and i'm seeing lots of mentions of "it may go wrong" - "old console to new console" etc etc. Now, i'm quite computer literate, so is there a non-microsoft way to do this so it does totally f
k up my HDD and all it's saved games? 
I gues i'd like to know two things:-
