SOUND ENGINEER'S ADVICE WANTED
Discussion
I've been asked to provide some audio samples to go with photographic imagery, which will involve recording engine sounds from vhicles as diverse as Historic F1 and pre-war supercharged Bentley.
I'd very much appreciate some advice - what equipment is recommended for broadcast quality, and should I hire a professional or possibly even have a go myself ?
Thanks in advance,
Tim

Don't muck about, hire a pro who has all the necessary know how and equipment.Your ears aren't trained to pick up everything that a decent sound engineer will.

We do location recording of acoustic music more than sounds but the process is still the same.I'd very much appreciate some advice - what equipment is recommended for broadcast quality, and should I hire a professional or possibly even have a go myself ?

Where you say it is for 'broadcast', is the sound quality paramount to the project, or is it merely to 'get it done'?
With a bit of skill and some luck, with a Mac or PC laptop you could spend a few hundred quid on a recording interface with microphone preamps and a passable microphone, and get something to 'get by'.
However, if you are looking at getting a proper job done it would probably not cost much more.
Where are you based, and what is the scope of the project?
