Does anyone have any good reasons why I shouldn't?

The f4 isn't an option as it's not fast enough. I don't currently have anything over 70mm and I'm finding that a real issue when visiting Zoos etc.

I'll probably pick up the 1.4x converter too.

Those two facts would seem to clinch it!

The only other option I can suggest is Sigma, if budget is important.

If you can afford it, just go for it. You'll never regret it.

EDIT: I personally don't think it's that heavy.

I looked at the sigma but the canon is a little sharper, plus I like how L glass holds it's value should I decide to go to Nikon.

Edit: I'm also aware they've been rumouring a MKII for a long time, but optically it can't get that much better and the MKII glass seems to be a 50% premium over MKI so shouldn't hurt second hand values in the short term.

Do it Jon, I adore mine cloud9 It really is the best canon lens I have tried/owned. I also have the 100-400 and the 70-200 blows it away for quality. It is heavy, but hey, we are men smile

There are rumours of an updated version coming out towards the end of this year, but that's all they are at the moment.
