Alternator Bracket

One of my projects this winter (of which there are many!) is finishing polishing the alloy 'Ford' 2.9 rocker covers that I've had for a while and fitting some of Barkychoc's resin TVR badges. I completed the first and it was such a bu**er of a job i've been putting off doing the second.

When I've done it the fun will really start though as was pointed out on a previous thread. The issue is the alternator bracket. The alloy rockers are higher and therefore foul the bracket. I plan to have a go at adjusting the height/angle of the bracket but wondered if anyone has a spare alternator bracket for a 2.9 engine for sale. This is just in case I have to abandon the whole idea and revert back to the standard set up.

I will put a post in the 'parts wanted' section and try the usual breakers but thought i'd give it a go here first.

I have a pair of Alloy covers which have been polished, I would
like to fit them in my spring clean up & service.
Has anybody altered an alternator bracket to allow the offside cover to fit,
if so by how much & where did you adjust it, having looked at it
I feel that the bracket could be extended to move the alternator
sideways 10-20mm & a longer belt used. Therby missing the alloy cover
Has anyone a photo or a sketch with some measurements where this mod has been done,
I could convert it into a drawing for future use by others

Hi Ian, I'm just in the process of adjusting my alternator bracket.

I agree that the alternator pivot point can be 'moved' slightly to one side but I think when this is done that the original belt size could still be used as the adjustment could be done by swiveling the alternator down and thus not changing the length. This should be possible as there will be enough room once the alternator is away from the rocker covers high point.

I've still got to loosley fit the polished cover into position to get a more accurate measurement for the adjustment. I was planning to have a small wedge type piece of metal inserted and welded into the flat surface of the bracket to leave the original bolt holes and swivel point as they were.

Not sure how well this'll work but I've got a spare bracket should I cock it all up

Let me know what you decide on as you may have an easier and quicker solution!

I'll have a good look this week end if the weather is not too bad
I was planning to change the oil so if its not too baltic in my garage
I may check the tappets which will give me chance to have a good look
& check the holes/angles etc of the bracket.
if I have a flash if inspiration I'll let you know
