Bilstein spring collars....
Discussion
After having the car (S2 111s) up on ramps last week I noticed a collar that the springs sit on (at the base of the rear spring) was looking very brittle and seemed to be flaking away when I poked at it.. Looked like a ceramic collar. It clearly needs replacing soon.
Have seen these on Eliseparts...Um, will these be what I need? They look similar in size and shape. Is it easy to do? I only have a regular tool set/knowledge set

Hi Nick,
Its a POP to get the dampers off, just two 17mm spanners/sockets and two bolts top and bottom. As with all stuff like this take a pic of it beforehand if you're not terribly mechanically minded so you can see how it was before you took it to bits
You'll need a small set of spring compressors to be able to get the springs off then you can get the collars off the dampers, then depending on how corroded they are, you'll probably need a wooden mallett to tap them off with.
My advice would be to take the dampers off yourself then just take them to your local trusted garage to change the collars.
