Hi, newbie here!

I'm just looking for some advice here. I've been told that a separate flash will serve me well in conjunction with my D70S. Thing is, I'm a complete newbie on a budget, and I just wondered if people would recommend old flashes (SB24?), cheap new flashes (Sigma etc.) or wait till I can afford a proper speedlight. AS I say, I'm a complete newbie just looking to get better pics of my kids, so the higher reaches of flash technique are wasted on me, at the moment at least.

Any pointers, guys?

Must post up some pics and get some c+c's!

Cheers
Craig

what's your budget? New Nikon SB-600's can be got for £170 and SB-400's for £86 from one-stop digital. IIRC the D70 can work wirelessly with compatible flashes - a great feature so get a gun that'll work with it (Nikon and Metz). I have the SB-600 and its great. Use it commander TTL mode with a cheap brolly / stand from on-line circa £30 and you have a simple portrait set-up too.

I'm in a similar boat looking for a flash for my D90. Not sure to go the SB400 route or SB600 route. Not entirely sure how much I will use the thing, or how many of the functions I will need.

Thanks for the reply, Ian. What are the Metz guns like? I am on a tight budget and they seem to offer more than the SB400.

as I said I use 2-3 Sb 600's At a recent course on CLS people were using Metz interchangably with Nikon and they seemed fine I also talked recently with the Metz rep and he confirmed they can work with CLS they seem to be priced lower than nikon retail and a slightly higher power but its possible to get nikon even cheaper I've not looked to see how cheap I could get Metz

The Nissin 622 has a street price of £100 and was recommended last month in one of the Digi SLR magazines ?
