Good Ultima Work Shop

Does anyone have any recommdations on a good work shop that works on Ultimas in the Northamptonshire area?

They need ot be reliable and reasonablly cost effective. Race car preparation experience would be a plus point.

Hinckley is near "Northamptonshire area" - what more does that "workshop" have to do to convince you of their ability to prepare race cars ?

Don't waste your time elsewhere. There is only 1 guy with Ultima race prep experience and sensible prices.

He happens to be not to far from the area you mentioned. I'll drop you his number.

I promise you if he has time to work on your car, you will not be disappointed.

how is the post before mine relevant to the OP?
It was pilbeams 2 replies that I was aiming my comment at as his first post clearly suggests the factory race prep cars which is something I was unaware of!

In my opinion the factory DO "race prep cars".

You may be thinking of the narrow meaning of the word "race" (more than one car on track simultaneously), but I am taking it to mean "against the clock"
as well - and we all know what they have done in that regard.

I spent 15 years hillclimbing and sprinting in all sorts of cars, and although there was only one car on track at a time, it is still racing (IMO)

My post to Bulldog is asking him to establish his guy's credentials, because if he opines (on a public forum) that "there is only 1 guy with Ultima race prep experience and sensible prices" - then he needs to back that up with some facts.

If, on the other hand, he had not posted here, and instead he had PM'd the OP and told him "not to waste his time elsewhere" (a phrase designed to disrespect the abilities of the factory personnel) then none of us would be any the wiser, because we would not have read it.

The guy Bulldog is talking about is massively talented in design and practice and has built many Ultimas....

He is also fairly priced and really nice bloke i also would recommend him.

He has built and developed race cars.

The factory do a good job but there are alternatives, not everyone wants the same out of their Ultima.

and yes I do know the guy who Bulldog refers to and Ive recomended him to many Ultima owners who he has done extensive amounts of work for in between working for GT race teams including the stealth.

I hardly think I was "flaming" Bulldog ! It certainly wasn't intended that way.

I am new to the Ultima world, so if there is someone out there with "Ultima race prep experience and reasonable prices" I am keen to know more.

Having won 4 Club Championships at Gurston Down in single-seaters, I might like to try the hills in an Ultima, at some point...

I don't know the gentleman to whom you, Bulldog and Kyle refer, so I merely asked him to give his, rather strong, statement some additional credibility, by expanding on it, in a way that could perhaps be referenced to the achievements of the factory car.

Let's agree to disagree , over what constitutes "racing", shall we

I have to recommend Kyle, im the most picky of all perfectionists as Kyle will no doubt tell you. But i have to give him his credit, teh quality of work is A1, and his rates are really good. If you want to see the quality of his work before commiting my cars still in his work shop by all means go take a look. And yep there is a race shop next door that he works alongside so not a sales picth from him.

You may have to book though he does get busy.

Andy spent 25yrs in motorsport. 4 yrs building and racing Supersports, followed by 5 yrs with Formula Fords. This year he has been looking after 4 cars in the 750 Motorclub MR2 Championship. Three experienced racers and yours truly.

Out of 40 cars entered this year, Andy 4 cars have won all the Championship silverware. The top three spots and the Highest Placed Novice Racer [cough...moi!!] in 8th place overall. (I almost feel I've let him down for not getting 4th!!!)

Anyway, a more down to earth chap would be hard to find. Supremely knowlegable on geo, and a very good 'head doctor' which has helped a lot this season.

Gets a 10/10 in LuckyP's 'would you recommend this outfit', poll.

PS - He breathed on X8 for 5 minutes whilst in Stuart's ownership, and transformed it, so I'm told.

PPS - He is the sole UK distributor for the CAV GT40 reproduction.

Swiss Tony, it's worth the trip up to see Kyle (Gulf LS7), he's located here: TF9 2JU.

Some reasons why a trip is worth it:

1. He know his stuff about Ultima's
2. He's in an industrial estate with lots of car/engine talent around (sadly no female talent though)
3. He's very reasonably priced
4. A genuinely nice guy
