Cerbera vs Skyline.....

Does anyone know the 0-60 of a Skyline? I have a relative who is part of a group of the "Maxed up brigade", (although this mob do seem genuinely interested in 'maxing' their cars rather than 'racing' them), but there is this guy there, who I havent had the pleasure in meeting, who has this Skyline. My relative, has had a run out in my Cerb, and has told all this group what a 'beasty' it is!! (she has good taste then!)This Skyline fella has then told everyone how much quicker his car is than a TVR.
Not having a slightest idea of how a Skyline performs, I have just said nothing.........

Attended a meeting last year at Elvington, 4.5 Cerbs were passing respectably tuned (Andy Midlehurst) Sklines like they were parked.

depends if the skline is a gts or gtr, i would imagine a cerb to be quicker than a gts no problem but the gtr might be closer.

unless its been tuned ive seen a modified gtr run a 11.5sec 1/4mile!

Standard Skyline is about 6 seconds to 60 according to the top gear mag and in a straight line will lose out to a V8 Esprit. We all know how an Esprit will fair against a Cerb in a straight line. However there are skylines out there with double the power of a Cerb.

Im told that although this Skyline is at present 'standard' its due to have a 'chip blown' and talk of 450 bhp...dont know if this achievable with a std Skyline, with just a chip mod?

I have a mate who has a 1,000bhp Skyline GTR with nitrous on board. Have been out in it, and it made my 5.0 Chimaera feel like a Fiesta. Very very fast and also very hairy. undriveable in the wet.

He was quoting 0-100 in around 5 seconds!!

But for what is has cost him he probably could have bought a Cerbera and a Tuscan.

As said, it depends on whether the Skyline is a GT-R or not. A standard GT-R does 60mph in about mid 4s with a good driver and optimum factors.

Would that be the Sumo Power R34 GT-R? That R34 GT-R has 1000bhp (at the crank) and nitrous. Very fast cars, and certainly not for the faint hearted. Good selection of friends you have, too.

Someone might buy a Skyline over a TVR due to engine tuning potential (they may be looking to extract all that potential for big power).

Don't flame me for what I've said, I'm a fan of TVR, and I'm being fair and not ignorant (nor am I insulting either marque).

Often thought about the outcome of a drag race between a cerb and a skyline.

Would a respectable skyline tune be 400 - 450 bhp? As I believe that is the limit without compromising standard engine component integrity / longevity. Does anyone know the power/weight ratio of such a tuned skyline opposed to a 4.5 cerby, that would give a better comparison of the two. Would the 4WD and electro-gizmo's of the skyline whip the cerb in the handling stakes?

Really does depend with model... gts, gts-t, gtr, r32, r33, r34........ and to what degree of tune. 450bhp out of any gtr isnt difficult but its not as simple as a chip.

Lets not forget it depends on the Cerbera too...

A standard 4.5 Red Rose that puts out 420bhp+ would stand a better chance of taking on a reasonably tuned skyline than a standard 4.2 with 350bhp+.

Then again, skyline tuning really is another world. As standard they produce 276bhp dont they (japanese agreement/ really its 300+ real) but there is a pretty large amount of GTR's running 600bhp+ (there arent many on the roads afterall)

Would be interesting, but at the end of the day one is a potential rocket and the other is the car of choice to rumble the teeth out of OAPs and light up the tyres in third as standard...

Washy, how have you faired against Skylines (if they've attended) on the track with that very quick Cerbera of yours??

I'd say if any Cerb is gonna batter a quick V-Spec then this one will.

A few friends of mine have Skylines, a quick R34, a standard R32 and a very tuned one, he got so many more horses just by changing the exhaust! The tuned R32 is quicker than the R34 but then again he's spent a fortune. I've been in it and this is alot quicker than my 4.5, the power is just so much instant, like a rubber band.

It all depends on the spec Paddy, 0-60's vary dramatically between tweaked motors. Still, give me a Cerbie anytime

Tony, no plans to jump ship to a Skyline...Cerb for me anyday!! I wanted to get my facts straight before i was to meet this guy with what seems to be "I can beat everything on gods earth" attitude.
Dont get me wrong, Im not about to throw the gauntlet down...well not just yet!!...but am interested in facts and not just some hyped up bull from someone flash.
If he has a very tuned motor, and he is genuine, then great...would love to see the car and chat to him, but there are a lot of big mouthed people out there that 'talk the talk' if you know what i mean.

To see a Skyline go off the line is an amazing site,,at elvington last year i was watching them do 10's on the 1/4 and even a 9 second pass they have AWD and just grip and go(these were street legal aswell),they also ran the standstill to 1.25 mile in the 190's.

Not sure about standard but would probably back the Cerbera ....modified my money would be firmly on the Skylines.

Oh wait - if we are talking on track then yes - a standard skyline is a very serious threat indeed!! You just cant compare the Cerberas nervous cornering (standard car) with the Skylines incredible 4wd systems (meant to drive like a ridiculously sorted RWD with 4wd style traction!!) Factor in some interesting weather and you might as well lap in the opposite direction

Fair enough, but at least on the straights you could tell how it would compare, On the road???? You must be barmy

Still, I reckon a sorted Cerb with the right kit will give it a run for it's money.....cue Washy....
