Pubs and roads round Petworth - recommendations please

Does anyone have any good ideas?

OH & I were in Petworth yesterday with the Exige, lovely roads driving down there. We stopped at the Stonemasons Inn for lunch which was really nice.

But does anyone have any recommendations for a pub with a larger car park & perhaps off the main road? I want to meet a friend for a hoon & some lunch round that way. Reversing out onto the main road when you have no rear view & are very low down is rather hair-raising!

I did pass The White Horse (I think) with a large car park opposite, but noticed it had a very bumpy entrance & think I may grind out the car trying to get it in there!

So, any recommendations welcome please

Also, roads - we came in on the A272, which is a lovely bit of road, but clogged up with Sunday drivers. Plan to meet early, but I'll be having a go in an NSX & want to make the most of it! Which way should we head & are there good back roads?
