you live in inner cities
because of poor education
because of poor housing
because of poor job opportunities

nothing to do with eating too much lard and sitting around doing nothing all day then. my kebab, beer and chocolate bar induced 'accessory' must be due to something else then, since none of the above apply to me.

If an article in the latest New Scientist is to be believed it may be because you once caught the wrong sort of cold.

I leave you to your own thoughts on the matter.

When an overweight person sits opposite me on the train, 9 times out of 10 they will immediately pull a Mars Bar or similar out of their bag and start eating it.

Just the thought of eating a whole Mars Bar makes me feel sick. I guess that's why I'm not fat.

The BBC said:
"Not everyone has a free choice about controlling their weight."
Can that possibly be true? Surely if you ate nothing but rice crackers and water you'd lose weight.

I am fat because I used to eat too much and not exercise enough.

I am yet to hear of any other reason.

Of course it's not true. There were no overweight prisoners in Belsen or Auchwitz.

When my son and I went to see District 9, the cinema was nearly empty.

This enabled us to better hear the constant rustling and slurping of the 2 slightly rotund ladies across the aisle, who, during the course of the film proceeded to eat their way through a full ASDA bag of sweets and crisps.

(I suspect they would have eaten the bag too, but would have fought over it.)
When we left after the film we spotted them heading towards the sweet counter!

I therefore conclude that there is a genetic component to fat, nothing to do with personal habits!

Yep, its eating too many pies. I`ve managed to lose a stone and a half in 2 months just from cutting out snacks and choc etc, accompanied by a 20min/day exercise regime. (i`m 42) Its easy to get into bad habits I imagine! It becomes "normal" to eat crap every day if you let it.

There has to be another element to just eating, because if I ate too much I'd just feel unwell rather than putting on any significant weight. Some people always feel hungry, and others must have slower metabolisms for example.

If you leave your muffin or pastry in the paper bag and nibble it discretely it doesn't count does it? - thats what the fatties on my train do anyway.

That'll be why Rio de Janeiro, Delhi etc etc have a massive problem with obesity then!? The benefits-dependent culture that's developed in the communities described limits the consequences of obesity but at the end of the day it's a simple consume/expend equation. Those just aren't justifiable reasons - the opposite should be true!

Sounds fair enough, I'm thinking...

WTF?

I'm all for personal choice/responsibility so how about offering the option ignore medical advice and contribute more NI?

Article says: "The San Francisco ordinance says you may want to mention weight to the patient but if the patient says they do not want to talk about that then you are asked to respect those wishes."

What a load of bks. If this is what they want in the UK and these fat people have a weight related health issue but "don't want to talk about it" they'd be quick enough to want NHS treatment. God it really pisses me off! I really hate the way they almost want you to feel sorry for them. You are fat because you are a lazy greedy . Go and do some fking exercise and eat more salads and less pies. It's really not difficult ffs.

It's not a disease.

Speaking as a bit of a bloater I think thats a great Idea as long as its accompanied by a National Fatty can punch your lights out day.

Could be great fun I am in smile
laugh If I do not have to chase after them to punch them... count me in! wink

I am fat because I simply do not exercise enough. But what about the complete opposite scenario, the thin person who eats all day long and is equally as lazy but remains stick thin?
