Repair Sport 160 Passenger Side Window
Discussion
Hi, can anyone tell me how to go about repairing the passenger side window in my Elise Sport 160. The wndow is loose and rattles, after takeing off the inside trim and looking at it,it appears to have 2 clamps that hold the window in the riser, the right hand one seems to be holding the window but everytime I push the left hand one in and do up the nut (with extreme difficulty)as soon as I wind the window up agin it just comes out agin. (no dealer within 200 mile of me so I can't ask)Appreciate any help.
Hi,
Had to do this repair about 5 years ago, so memory might be a bit dodgy. If I remember there are 4 plastic clamps which hold the glass to the frame, these are glued in place. You will need to buy 4 new ones (hangar111 or lotus dealer) remove glass, held on by the 4 clamps, bolted to the frame. There is no need to remove the window seals, although it's tricky to remove the glass.
Mark the position of the clamps and then remove, clean the area - must be very clean. I can't remember the name of the glue, it was a glass to plastic bond, think I bought it from Hanger111 with the clamps. Takes 24+ hrs to fully bond. Once bonded reassemble. Helps if you have small hands!
Use silica spray on the side rubber window runners, this makes a huge difference, when winding. Window is still going strong after 5years, so it works, just a bit of a fiddle.
Hope this helps.

Mine rattles like hell.
Had the factory look at mine and then Sinclaires - Both seemed to think that it was a pretty major job as the winding gear needed to be taken out. Apparently the winding gear is actually fitted prior to the 2 door pieces being bonded together and to remove it you have to drill a massive hole in the bottom of the door.
I asked Sinclaires to do it in any case and they 'forgot';I established the impression that it was a job that no-one fancied getting involved with?!
I now wear ear plugs which is a lot cheaper.

"Job Done" The keys to doing this are, the gooseneck ring spanner for undoing and doing up the 10mm bolts on the stud carriers that bolt to the lift channel.I also took of the inner window door seal so as to get the glass out easier. The best thing I did was to bolt the front stud carrier to the lift channel by getting someone to hold the glass halfway up and as far back to the rear as possible. I then slid the lift channel off the front stud attached to the scissor arm. This allows you to put the front 10mm nut on the lift channel and tighten it (not too tight it still has to move a bit)before you slide the assembly forward again and onto the scissor unit. You still need patience and to read the service manual first. A big thanks to all that provided advice, all good, and I couldn't have done without it.
