Today I realised just how much I love TVRs.

I was reading in the back room when I the distance, I heard the distinctive rumble of a TVR - I went nuts with excitement! I flung my book to one side and physically launched myself from the chair, hurdled both our (now terrified) cats and pinned my face to the front bedroom window in anticipation. A few seconds later, my athletic performance was rewarded with the sight of a beautiful yellow Cerbera driving past my house with its exhaust rumbling and popping away. I was elated. (My Wife however was not impressed that I almost killed the kitties just to see ‘some car’ go past).

Now, for a while I have been looking to buy a 2nd car, trying to decide if I should get something like an S2000, M3, E55 AMG, XJR or a TVR. Although the other cars I am considering are absolutely fantastic- no other type of car makes me excited like a TVR does. I don’t know what it is about them that gets me so excited – the sound? The smell? The styling? I don’t know.

In reflection, this afternoon’s experience has enabled me to narrow down my car shortlist – by a lot!!!!!

So, my TVR-owning friends - does the excitement last when you have one in your garage, or am I being a bit naive?

5 years into TVR ownership and I covered my Griff tonight with the care and love usually reserved only for Mrs B.

And uncovering the Griff is like unwrapping your birthday presents when you are 10

The excitement NEVER leaves you biggrin

No! Its a lot better when you're driving one!

Still, glad you narrowed the list down to the obvious choice, now all you've got to do is narrow the list down further to which TVR to get! Not so easy! rofl

Naive, absolutley not!

The excitement lasts, and lasts..... and lasts. I never tire from hearing that deep rich tone, exclusive to TVR.

I have even been known to just start her up in the garage for a "fix". But its even better out, driven with the roof off.

Go on, you know you want to.

What are you waiting for - you only live once!

Entry level £3k for something like a wedge or S, £150 classic insurance.

At this level it helps if you can work a spanner but its not essential, they are also pretty depreciation proof.

I have £12k saved, so currently looking at Chim/Griffs. Although, I keep thinking that if I save throuigh the winter, some of the older Speed6 beasts come into view. Either way, I realise it simply HAS to be a TVR. biggrin

Any of the "old guard" on here will be able to tell you how long I've been wandering up and down these hallowed halls muttering noises about getting a Chimera. They'll also probably happily remind me about the number of times I turned up at PH meets in a smoky Volvo estate and the interminable discussions with the (now ex) wife regarding getting one under the proposed "sperm for toys" program...

I was 19 when I had my first ride in a Tiv, it was a 350i wedge, and ever since then I've wanted one. 20 years later there's now a '94 Cosmos Blue 4 litre HC sat outside which I've had for just over a week.

After the RX-8 I had before it it is noisy (and I don't just mean the exhausts), it's cramped, I just know I'm going to bake in the summer, it crashes and thumps over the crap road surfaces we have around here, I constantly find I'm checking gauges just in case there's a problem (OK - to be fair to it it hasn't *ACTUALLY* let me down in any way and so that's just me and my paranoia at work - we're quite happy together thankyou very much) and I'm sure it will become a constant work in progress (even if that's not actually "fixing" anything but just "fiddling" with stuff) but - just as with kids and pets - I love it dearly and as far as I'm concerned I may as well have a chat with the local church now and arrange a bigger plot because when the time comes you can damn well bury me in it!

Now excuse me for a second because I'm just going to go look out the window at it...

Slightly OT, it doesnt have to crash and thump. I replaced my old worn out Billies with nice adjustable RRs and keep the tyre pressures correct and it make a world of difference.

Do go for a medical check up though. Because your adreneline glands will be sent through their paces! It is this which makes TVR for me.

A couple of weeks ago I was invited to one of those experience days where you get to drive stuff like single seaters, caged, 130i Beemers, 997s and Gallardos on track. Both latter cars cost about as much as my apartment here in The Netherlands (blame our registration tax) but after my drive down in the humble Chimaera both felt distinctly normal and uninvolving.

For raw excitement whilst being practical and comfortable enough to be used for all sorts of everyday driving, there's nothing quite like a TVR...
