What's wrong with "rewind" feature?
Discussion
Why are so many people dead against race rewind features in games like Forza 3? It's not like you're forced to use it! People say it shouldn't be in a sim, but you can pause a sim to go to the toilet. Come to think of it there's plenty of stuff currenly in sims which dont appear in real life, so whats wrong with rewind?
If you use it, your scoreboard time will record that you used it and you cant use it online. What's the problem then?

the thing is the word "sim" is used far too much. To be a simulator it needs to be as real to the thing it is simulating as possible.
For example Call of Duty is not a sim as the last thing you want to do when shot is hide behind a wall in the hope you will feel better.
However Arma2 is sim in the respect that you dont want to get shot at all as it will end your day real quick.
I would not call the like of Grid, dirt2 and Forza simlators. The damage is not real enough, car handling is not real enough plus to be like the real thing you normaly have to qualify for your race position as well as set you car up for each track.
OK not everyone likes those things but then they dont need to purchase them, what I am really trying to get at is the only reason people are hating the rewind feture is because they think they are playing a sim
that probably made no sense at all lol

I think that's it. Most of the criticism I've heard seems to be aimed at it's inclusion into Forza 3 which plenty of people seem to regard as a sim. I don't really care much for sims generally and prefer a 'realistic' game such as Forza which you can just pick up and play. I still dont get whats wrong with having it in a game though. I used to get fed up with being taken out of a race by an errant AI or lapse in concentration. Rewinding a few seconds can make the game more enjoyable but as I said, you dont have to use it!!

I know where you are coming from, but that's not my objection to 'rewind'. To me, rewind features strike me as another step in long chain of measures taken to 'dumb down' games. To make them more accessible to the masses, which usually goes hand in hand with ignoring the hardcore gamers. I want a game that rewards keeping your concentration for more than 5 seconds. A game that can be punishing if you don't have the skills to play it. A game that takes more than 15 minutes to master. Rewind seems to go completely against all of these things. I can see the issue with rewind, but then I'm not going to use it. Its seen as too arcadey for a game like Forza to be able to undo the complete mess you made of that corner, so go back in time and do it again. Nevermind the fact that you can press a button, go to a menu and restart the race. If Forza was a sim in the way people see it should be then we wouldn't be able to play the game for months if we hit a wall at 100mph, and not game months, real time, the game would be locked out on your profile. And then people would complain about that
.
.It's not something I would ever use, but then it's no different to me than using ABS, traction control, corner arrows, huge illuminated braking zones on the track etc.People use all of those in Forza and other racing games, all of which to me are about as pointless as in game music. But, each to their own, the rewind feature will at least allow you to practice corners over and over without the need to go round again, I suppose.Anyway, who is looking forward to Need For Forza 4?

rewind is great...get to practice the same corner over and over.
anyone slagging it for not being sim like...while sat in their living room with a beer...needs to get out more!
Exactly, if you want to do realistic driving go and get a trackday car.anyone slagging it for not being sim like...while sat in their living room with a beer...needs to get out more!
Computers games are exactly that.... Games!

I think people may just fear that if such a trend continues, the next forza installment will have you dropping bananas on the track or something.anyone slagging it for not being sim like...while sat in their living room with a beer...needs to get out more!
I think it's a great idea. I don't have unlimited free time. I think a game should forgive me for that little race ending error in lap 15. Do it differently, win the race. That's waht computer games are all about, the disconnect from reality that lets you be the best driver in the world for a few hours.
If it was a real sim it sould take £10k out of your bank account when you put it in a wall, and then not allow you to race again for 6 months whilst your femur heals.

If it was a decent sim at the start of career it would give you a choice:If it was a real sim it sould take £10k out of your bank account when you put it in a wall, and then not allow you to race again for 6 months whilst your femur heals.
Do you want to be:
A) A kid with a rich dad and no talent.
B) A talented kid with no money.
A) would mean you start with a million credits and win by buying the best cars but your reactions are slower.
B) would mean you are constantly struggling with s
t cars but your reactions are quicker.Sorry for the bumpage
So, Forza 3 has been out for a while and we've all had a good chance to try it out.
Has anyone changed their mind about the rewind feature?
Personally I use it a fair bit but only to correct major errors or crashes. It's certainly saved me alot of time not having to restart races!!
Overall is it a worthwhile feature or has it devalued the game in any way?
