Pic Of The Week: Ferrari at Oulton Park In '68

Email for a chance to win 10 free copies of '80 Years Of Scuderia Ferrari'

This week's glorious POTW shows racer Chris Amon revelling in his talents behind the wheel of a Ferrari 312 at Oulton Park in 1968 at the International Gold Cup. Amon came second to Jackie Stewart's Cosworth-powered Matra MS10 by 4.6secs, but as we all know very well here at PistonHeads - being first isn't everything!

However, this week's POTW offers 10 lucky PHers the chance to be winners, as we're giving away 10 copies of the fabulous 80 Years of Scuderia Ferrari (from which this POTW is lifted) in a fabulous (dahlings!) email prize draw.

To quote the publishers: "80 years of Scuderia Ferrari covers the marque's complete competition history from foundation through to the current grand prix season.

"Featuring extensive use of unseen images from the LAT grand prix archive, the focus is on the Scuderia's Formula 1 exploits, but will also cover its sports car racing programmes, especially at Le Mans, as well as the people behind its greatest triumphs."

So there you have it - what's not to like? For your chance to win a copy, email competitions@pistonheads.com with the words Ferrari 80 in the subject line, and don't forget to include your name and address. Entries will close at mid-day on Monday October 12th, when we'll pick 10 winners at random from the PH virtual hat.

What a great photograph!

The really sad thing though is that I was actually there ..... aged 14 ... which gives me really mixed feelings.

It's terrific for this to bring back some amazing memories of regular visits to Oulton Park as a fully signed up teenaged car nut ....... but then I notice how long ago it was and realise that I'm now a wrinkly.

Still got an S1 Elise and a '66 Cooper S though. Must keep the fires burning somehow!

P.S. I never knew that EXIDE batteries were Irish! hehe

Great photo indeed.

I have this very photo in the Petrol Head room at home. The only difference being mines signed by Chris smile He's a fantastic bloke and a true Kiwi gentleman.

It's such a shame he's unable to fly due to poor health, otherwise he'd be on the prgramme at the Goodwood Revival in a flash (he's been invited a number of times).

Great photo, but what's with the resolutions offered? Sure 1280x1024 is fairly common, but how many people really have 1440x900 or 2048x1536? I think a lot more people have 1024x768, 1600x1050, 1920x1080, or 1920x1200. I could be wrong, but even if I am it would be nice to have something between 1440x900 and 2048x1536.

Indeed.

Was it Enzo who said something along the line of "...greatest driver never to win a GP..."?

In between being a Kiwi Gent and a farmer Chris helped Toyota NZ to develop the suspension for the Corona (Carina in the UK iirc) so it suited the roads that we Kiwis hooned around on. Did a great job, too.

Now retired in Taupo (lovely spot).

I love the poise and angle of the car! Look at the front inside wheel, perfectly placed at 80mph (just a guess, im sure ill be corrected!). On the preview pic it looks like Chris is grinning like a cartoon character. Don't want to offend but like the crazy frog!

Great pic and my new desktop, fact!

Not sure,

But think your spot on with Old Hall definately not druids, but the other alternate would have been lodge..

I spend half my summer saturdays there in orange...

Interesting debate this ...... definitely not Lodge .... Lodge is much tighter and the road falls away mid bend.

My guess is that its Old Hall (I think!) because of the sheer number of spectators. I wouldn't put money on it though ..... it could be Druids .... he's going mighty quickly to get it into that attitude ... which sort of suggests Druids!!

Oh well .........

Great driving anyway .... and if he had crashed he might not have walked away driving

Sobering thought.

Love that!

Seeing the tyre hanging onto the rim really gives it a sense of speed!

Fantastical!

1440 x 900 is actually a pretty common resolution. Usual for a 17/19 inch widescreen monitor, but yes having 1680 x 1050 etc. etc. would be nice!
