Split screen video editing

[Smashed]

Right I think this is the right forum for this,

My brother is doing a uni project and he wants to play 2 videos at the same time on one screen like a kind of split screen.

Anyone know of some free software that will take his 2 recordings and edit them together? He has a iMac osx with iMovie and access to a windows pc as well with just windows movie maker. I've had a look on move maker but I can't find anything that will do this but I'm no pro with it.

ETA:

Kind of like half way through this video 1 min 25 secs I think. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JzqumbhfxRo

Plus it's just a cool video

Looks like it can be done in Windows Movie Maker, and for free no less:

Edit to add - I haven't actually used the above, so have no experience of it actually working.
