Usually I dont allows myself some until December, M&S seem to do the best. Any thoughts on otherwise?
My colleague and I conducted an exhaustive test of all the local supermarket's mince pies a few years ago, however I struggle to remember the final outcome. Oh well. Might just have to do it again
.i recently started a pork pie taste test but gave up when i looked at the nutritional info!

I might have one a year, usually just before XMAS when they are lying about in the office. In my opinion in should be illegal to sell them in any other month than December.
Why?

Made my first ones this week as a contribution for a harvest supper auction.I bought some Frank Coopers Mature Cognac Oxford Mincemeat today, anyone tried it?
I must say, that having tried many mincemeats over the years, from basic to 'posh', that my favourite now is the regular Tesco Mincemeat product. You have to pay so much extra for added this, that and the other and invariably the taste is ruined. (IMO, naturally)Oakey said:

Mince pies are one of the most Christmassy things ever invented- and have been for about 200 years.
Creme eggs were invented by Cadburys specifically for Easter.
Get so annoyed with Christmas stuff outside of December- all it does is dilute the fun of christmas and make it feel less special.
Since we're on the subject, can we talk about short pastry v puff pastry?
I prefer my mince pies to be light and crispy packets of puff-pastry goodness
, whereas I think the majority enjoy the deep filled kipling-esque variety.
It's so difficult to find a puff pastry mince pie, even in season!
I can't be the only one, can I?
