S2 ground clearance

I have just read ground clearance on S2 is over 5". Absolutely NO WAY not on mine anyway the exhaust hits anything around 3" and a main reason I am changing to a Chimaera or am I missing something here

Sounds like you've been quoted the approximate clearance between out-rigger corners and the ground rather than overall clearance which as you say is much lower at the exhaust

There are ways of reducing the number of times you ground out with an S , some cheap, like changing the exhaust clamps to the Mikalor type and ensuring your exhaust is mounted correctly, some other ways are more expensive like changing your shox if they are goosed.

What I believe you are missing is the raw joy of driving an S compared with the more civilised Chim (which I'm sure is a good car in its own right especially if you are a golfer ).

give the S a chance I would say and take some advice on your setup

You will be missing something if you get rid of the S for a Chimaera - I know I've been there and come back Don't get me wrong the Chimaera's are great cars, but depending on what you want to use it for the S can be better in certain situations

I have just had my suspension set up Glielmi`s and had to use a particularly poor road on the way home, and had absolutely no issues with grounding out, or travelling over bumpy roads at speed. It also clears speed humps without a problem. The car look like it is sitting too high mind you, but it looks ok. Without taking exact measurements from a flat surface, which I do not have, I guess crudely there is about 4" between the rear wheel arch and the wheel, and 3" at the front.

Mikalor manufacture a range of T-bolt clamps which have a much lower profile than the traditional U-bolt exhaust clamps. The T-bolt design means the bolt can be positioned on top, and the body of the clamp is only a thin strap so takes almost no height at all. The Mikalor Supra ones are the ones to look for, just choose the diameter to fit the exhaust pipe.

On the left we have standard clamp and on the right a "Mikalor" ( more generally used for clamping flexible pvc pipe etc. so not usually available from car shops )these are size 51-55, depending where you find some are available in plated mild steel or stainless



And here they are fitted, flexi's were an atempt to stop front of "silencer" repeatably splitting, but they don't help ground clearance !



Final note, out on a run last Sunday with variuos Chims, Cerbs and Sags and everyone taking it very cautiously over speed bumps, not just me in my little S

CTE - I have had new S3 trailing arms, new AVO shocks & springs some years ago & mine always looks like its sitting a little too high. But its not. Thats how they are supposedto be, its just that alot of them have settled & shrunk down.

If you check the official factory ride height, i think its 14cm from road to outrigger.

I can go over speed bumps no problem and it never grounds on fast dips in the road any more

My S3 sits quite low. Have never experienced the exhaust grounding out since replacing the shocks/springs and a proper geometry set up. Though have to give speed bumps carefull consideration. If your suspension set up is old/worn or badly set up get it looked at and sorted.
