My neighbour has just installed a scissor-lift similar to this and I'm wondering whether I can lift the Chim with it?

Virtually identical to this one

I'm just thinking it could be useful to get to the underneath, rather than using axle stands but don't want to attempt it if it's going to knack the chassis/outriggers?

Edited to fix linky

I'd like to see the "locking" mechanism, to ensure if the hydraulics fail, the whole lot doesn't collapse. AS far a jacking points are concerned , if its adjustable to the corner positions on the chassis, I don't see it as any different to a two poster.

Coincidentally there is a similar thread running on the AMOC forum at the moment. This chap has bought one from Strongman Tools for about £1700 and it looks like a really useful piece of kit. He's made some solid wooden/rubber blocks to fit the chassis and protect it as it lifts, I assume you could do something similar for your TVR. http://www.strongmantools.co.uk/

For £1700 quid you could get a four poster which gives you access from the sides. The one with the Aston on would be a PITA with those tubular links going across the floor area.
Also your outriggers would be almost impossible to get at.
Get a 4 poster you wont be dissapointed !! Sorry a bit of porn for you .....

On the bit that is recessed into the floor, is what can best be described as a long, flat 'cog' that a metal plate passes over when the lift is going up and then locks into place when at the desired height. So to lower the car, you need to raise it a bit so that the metal plate 'unlocks' itself.

Haven't described it that well but I know what I mean(!) and I have no qualms on that front.

It is extendable lenghtways and has a series of hard rubber blocks that you can place between the lifing platform and the chassis.

Look like it could be OK and save me some cold, wet backs in the winter..

Interesting, because initially I thought the same, indeed I remember thread a year ago when loads of TVR chaps all bought 4 posters. But the plus with the scissors is that you can easily get the wheels off to work inside the wheel arches etc. Plus you obviously don't have the posts obstructing the garage. Pro's and con's I guess?

Yeh mine's the Intern one, had it just over twelve months. Cost about £1200 notes, I believe they have gone up a bit now.

I've just bought something similar for the Griff. Not used it in anger yet as waiting for the sparky to fit the dedicated spur.

I'll be building a platform around it to drive on so the car is raised up to the same level as the lift.

For me a four poster would have meant I couldn't move around the car, as I only have a single garage, and not a lot of height. This will give me all the access I need. I did a body lift last year to clean and paint the outriggers so not anticipating having to do that again soon. But should I need to, I think I can still use the lift with suitable packing to gain the necessary access.

Thanks for your comment Stevie Mojo, that's kept me busy all Summer, but thoroughly enjoyed doing it. Sad I know, but cleaning the underside of the car is a piece of cake now all that horrible black waxoyl has been removed (apart from a new application of clear on top of the outriggers).

Watch him Colin, he just want's to get his motor up on your lift! LOL
I'm a sparky to (and much nearer than madmatt) but to be quite honest you will probably find it'll be happy on a 13amp plug. Suck it and see.

One good reason for a separate fused spur, is an anti theft device..... I stick my car 3 foot in air in the garage , then flick off the RCB in the house... I'd like to see the buggers nick it from there.... hehe

Ah, my lift has just a manual hydraulic pressure release lever. Regardlaess of power being on or off it lowers.

On mine you need to raise it to get it off the locks, otherwise can't lower it.
