Was it me or was this the biggest pile of horse manure ever... not only did it cast the rescue services as a bunch of amateur numpties, it also showed that members of their teams didnt even posess common sense or climbing knowledge, let alone any other useful skills !! What do I pay my licence fee for these days !!!!!

Sorry All.. I needed to rant this somewhere.. !! I feel a bit better now.

Cheers
Matt.

This was filmed up my way (Fort William) and was reported to have cost £500k an episode due to hiring of helicopters etc.

That chopper is apparently based at RNAS Ganet! Or Prestwick to you and me! The crew's are the nicest guys you'll ever meet ever, but when the shit hits the fan, they turn into machines that get everything perfect every time! It really is awesome to watch!

Load of crap! I used to to bit of rock climbing - until I started growing sideways rather than upwards & my arm strenght couldn't keep up - and this whole programme was totally implausable.

If - like the hapless 'rescue' member who ripped the arse out of his strides when he fell - you're climbing solo (without rope and alone) you don't generally encumber yourself with the unneccessary weight and bulk of a rope and harness. I could go on...

It paints a pretty poor picture of the joys of the mountians - nearly put me off going to Snowdonia this w/e!

The guy did have a rope but he attached it to that stupid wifey that walked back over a rockface. He then proceeded to stop himself from falling with the heel of his shoe! Now that is unrealistic.

indeed.. he could have tied her off using the bottom of the rope (as it appeared anyway) and climbed back up using the rest of his own rope, then hauled her up afterwards... Having done quite a bit of climbing myself this was all utter bollocks.. and as for it being a "hard climb" it looked more like a scramble than anything else.. more Bollocks...

Climbed a slightly snowy & icey Tryfan (in Snowdonia) on Saturday.

Having seen **ckface earlier in the week, I took care to remind the girlf' & newphew to look our for falling bodies on the mountain!

Can't believe I watched it AGAIN (and you should have known better too Matt!), I excuse myslef by the fact that as I took my dinner into the lounge and flicked the box on - there it was.

I work with the helicopters.
RAF helicopters.
Oh how I chuckled....

Why is it than whenever a TV company chooses a profession for a drama they make such a hash of it?

Go to the hills. Enjoy them. Fall off them - keeps me in a job.

Or "Spazualty" - which is filmed near me. Have the BBC ever actually researched any of the organisations they make dramas about? The only people I've ever met who carry on like the characters in their dramas work for - the BBC...

In real life, most people have a bit of a laugh at work - especially medics. I don't think I've ever seen anyone laugh on Casualty, or talk in streams of swear words like certain nurses I could name.

STRIKE THREE...

always remember.. when wading into rivers, take a complete rock-climbing lead-rack with you to jangle round your knees and catch on underwater obstacles... NOT!

I lasted 9 minutes before switching off in disgust....

Cheers,
Matt.

Whoever produced this crap should be ashamed. MR volunteers are a deeply impressive group of people who are prepared to put themselves at risk in order to help total strangers. The calibre of the blokes I've come across around Fort Williams, in the Lakes and Snowdonia has always been humbling to a numpty scrambler like me.

However, one of the funniest things I've seen was the Brecon Beacons MR minibus being caned up a 1:4 lane. Its occupants were all grinning like lunatics. Guess they don't get called out too often. The way they were driving, I expect they were the ones who were going to be needing help.

As an ex climber I watched the first episode expecting *hite, but hoping to see some of my old stomping grounds. Never expected that much crap. Couldn't face it again for any reason.
