Got a Storm Titanium 111s with the original wheels on which I'll be getting re-furbed soon and I'm thinking of getting them painted black at the same time.

Should I go for a gloss or satin finish? Opinions would be welcome! yes

And can anyone recomend anywhere in Essex (I live in Chelmsford) where I could get them done?

I saw a 111R with matt black and thought they suited the colour very well.

To the point i may some time get them on mine if i kerb them over the winter although the temptation of having exige wheels on mine is too much.

Without wishing hijacking the thread is it possible to have Exige wheels on an R?

Only my opinion but I'd go for satin,I think most of the Lotus wheels are satin black.Gloss just seems to slick and cheap looking. At the end of the day it's you're car you'll have to decide.

satin or even matt

had mine done on the last 2 cars, and even got the Vantage wheels in matt anthracite (grey) ...they always look clean and the matt finish dosent seem to make the brake dust stick so easy smile

For me i'd say satin for a 'dull' coloured car like Titanium, and matt for a brightly coloured car.

I'm in Chelmsford too and was looking to have my TVR wheels re-furbed in black. Instead I sold it and bought an Exige.

This thread may be of interest.

Cheers guys, especially for the link on the last post

smile

Was thinking of going for satin anyway but hadn't considered the possibility of changing the wheels all together... an Exige set or some Team Dynamics Pro Racer's look mighty tempting!

Damn those wallet unfriendly photos wink

The problem with matt/satin is that imho it can look a bit japanese street racer on anything other than a ratty car or track day car. When i bought my titanium 111s i specced matt black wheels, but they got lacquered and ended up gloss! I actually think they look great. Shiny and presentable when the car is detailed but they get matt very quickly with brake dust in use. Whatever you do, beware of powder coating. Painting is safer.

Why beware of powder coat?

on some types of wheels, if baked too hot, can weaken them

you need to have them done somewhere that knows what they are doing e.g. does it safely and knows not to do mag wheels etc (cant remember which alloy it is)
