Mine's used every day, the kind of run your doing is even better.
I flew to Germany in July to watch some footy games in Austria & had a car ready for me at Munich airport. I drove that Ford Focus for about 15 mins before pulling on to services & checking my phone for flights back to Brum, so I could get my own car
Time restraints on the journey home ruled it out, but I hated every second of getting in that Focus. Especially when getting bullied on the autobahns
I've done a couple of Italy trips & A couple of Germany trips in it before.
But I'm never going to Europe without it again

I promise you it will not melt if it does rain, the more you drive these cars the better it will get.................

Go for it Hunter, when you get to the A74 when it's pissing just slow down to 70mph.

Well said that man. They're not that bad in the wet - just drive to the conditions and you'll be fine. You've got lots of travel on the accelerator - don't push it down so far and the car should be pretty docile.The first few times I drove my T350 in the wet I was bricking it, now I just shrug and resign myself to being more cautious - it's no big deal - if you don't drive it in the wet through choice, you'll be really screwed when you take it out somewhere and it starts raining. Just take it steady and you'll be fine - concentrate on being smooth and controlled - make sure that you match engine revs on the downshift or at least be gentle when bringing the clutch up after changing down.
As someone else mentioned at the top they don't melt in the rain, nor do they automatically become hedge-seeking missiles!
I did Portsmouth to Blackpool and back last weekend in my Chim. Got stuck in traffic, got stuck in rain, my left leg was killing me by the time I'd trundled up the M6. But, you know what, I'd not wanted to be in another car 
Of course, the fuel bill hurt my pocket quite a lot. 3 tanks of Super vs 1 tank of Diesel if I'd taken my Saab.
