6K to spend on what?

Ok people,
would like a bit of feedback from the collective minds here - as you may or may not know the 993TT is going very soon as I need a replacement car. I'm only willing to spend about 6K(ish) on a car. I don't need a familiy car or anything, but it needs to be fun to drive and responable practical (I want to put a town bar on to bull a small trailer/motocross bike).
I've been thinking about a 306 gti-6 speed - has anyone had one of these or knows much about them? I also have thought about a Corrada, but they're pretty hard to find down here.

I quite like the fiat coupe 2oi turbo 16v for that sort of money. original looking, and very nippy. Im not fond of the looks myself, but once I test drove one, I was convinced.

Escort, mk1 or mk2 group 4 rally prepared. 6k will get you a good one. At least you'll stand out in sainburys car park.

the seat ibiza is often overlooked but quite a potent car, i have a friend with the 2 litre version and it seems to be a good handling fwd car with enough power to make it enjoyable.

6k will get you quite a good condition Nissan 200 Sx. Very good cars to drive and very easy to upgrade power and handling wise, the only draw back is the parts are quite pricey.

I agree with Thom about Pugs. I have had serious prob's with every Pug I have had including GTI 6's and 206 GTI's. Don't touch 'em.

You can get a decent MR2 mk2 Turbo for £5K.

Turbo means its imported, and therefore has all the extras...PAS,ABS,A/C,luxury amp pack,half leather trim, and 225bhp. Loads of fun, very quick, decent looking.

Funnily enough, I've got one and looking to sell soon, moving up to a Tuscan.

Arr yes well.. erm... actually I want to buy a villa down here (french riviera) so I need the cash. Plus it pointless having nice car down here, as you'll know if you've visited, everyone just bashes you car up in public places. I plan to (once I've save enough again) to get a Westfield Seight V8 or Griff as the weekend fun car, but that'll have to wait a while.

Why not get a Corrado VR6? One of the best FWD chassis made, 190bhp (and easily tuned up to 210bhp with minor mods), 0-60 in 6.4s and good examples can be picked up for your budget. Available in both RHD and LHD too.

Ok, I'm biased. I've got one (see profile).

Or how about an older MX-5 if you prefer a bit of RWD action?

Yeah the VW is a definite contenter, not the MX5 though - just don't fancy it at all.

I have - didn't like the nothchy closley spaced gearbox. Bit slow too. 106 gti feels much quicker, but still not properly quck.

I'g go along with that. Used to think mine was very quick till I got the TVR. Still, it does feel pretty frantic if you're prepared to use all the revs and the handling's great fun (as long as you remember it's FWD, so lift off into corners).

Never had any problems with it either, contrary to an earlier post, but there's always good and bad ones whatever you buy.

Not impressed with any of the suggestions so far. Call me biased, but for £6000 you can pick up a decent Audi S2. Here's why. 0-60 in a shade under 6 secs, !52mph flat out. Built like a tank. Stacks of room - huge amount of space in the back - vast when you fold down the seats. Four wheel drive of course (tho that 's considered a bit of a drawback in PH land I think). Amazing reliability and only just run in at 100,000 miles. On the downside, the brakes are only just adequate, but they still make a fair fist of slowing the thing down. Also, the steering's slightly insensitive and the ride is a bit "firm".

Mrs Yertis wants a new car and this is what she's getting. No choice in the matter, so long as I'm paying.
