SC Power Supercharger on Griffith
Discussion
We wondered what sort of response we would get! If anyone is confused, let me explain. I did recently visit SC Power and drive their 5 liter demo car. I also paid for my own Sc Power Supercharger kit for my Griff 500. You see, David and Colin Harvey at Sc Power knew what i was intending to write on here, and yes, it is complete b
ks that they say their car will travel round a roundabout at 30mph in 5th gear with no problems because i tried it myself and got the speed down to an incredible 20mph in 5th gear arouund two different roundabouts and the motor handled it fine with no knocking or fuss and pulled smoothly and progressively from 20mph to 60+mph in 5th. So if anyone is looking for more power from their Tiv, but also want an engine that is very tractable in the wet (i know) and great in traffic and will also humble a Porsche GT3RS (i know that's true aswell), then give Sc Power a call and book a test drive. I'm almost there in fitting my kit and it will be at various track days in 2010 so if you want a passenger ride come and say hi.

I was going to call you wrong, and a cock!
I agree, they are very tractable, very fast and generally great kits.
They are so smooth though that you can get very used to the power quite quickly, and I keep thinking that its lost power somehow. In fact last night I was testing out the datalogger I've just bought for the racecar and was slightly nervous about what to expect... Got home though and out it spat: 348bhp... At the wheels! Phew! Thanks again Colin & Dave!!
If you want to mod your car for more power, its the best choice by far.

Before you can say "mod your car for more power - it's the best choice", isn't the question really, if a n/a engine gave the same power as a SC one which would be the nicer car to drive?
"if"...show me a n/a rv8 pushing out 400-450bhp that is still driveable on the road. If such a beast existed then you would have a choice.I have little experience with the RV8, but this is my common sense talking: To make a RV8 on a budget N/A have a similar output to a forced inducted RV8 with a similar displacement then you would have to make it rev. This would make it much less drivable. And would cost a hell of a lot more to accomplish.
As has been said, you'd need revs, a very lumpy cam, high compression and a generally horrible engine for the road. This would cost a fortune and be anything like a normal car to drive on the road with all the power at the top. With a charger, the engine has the same characteristics as it did as a standard n/a. It doesn't feel any different in terms of where the power comes in etc etc. It just has more everywhere, yet a nice low and stable idle, no shunting and is a pussycat around town. Fan-bloody-tastic

I believe Steve Heath's John Eales Special was in that sort of region before he supercharged it. It seemed pretty tractable to me seeing him pootling to and from events and driving round the paddock, none of the sort of temperamental ill manners you'd expect from such a highly tuned engine. I understand it had rather a lot invested in it though and the relatively mild spec engine supercharged to similar power looks dramatically cheaper.Gassing Station | General TVR Stuff & Gossip | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
