Air Intake Hoses

Been wanting to brighten up the air intake hoses - havent found anything until recently. Then found Stainless Overbraids here page 137 one metre of SOB63 did the trick

Norman. Looks good, I'm still looking through the Goldmine 205 page catalogue from your link.
There look to be loads of things that I want from there including 2" exhaust flexi's so that I don't have to re-make the front downpipe joints every 2 weeks.

Looks nice Norman - following the thread - I've wondered sometimes if there is anything to be gained by replacing the normal intake pipes with smooth bore stuff - this does seem to be an improvement (?) that some of the Chim/Griff owners do but whether it would make any worthwhile difference on a V6 S I've no idea so has anyone tired it/any benefit and if so what did they use?

Horses for courses, but tbh my first reaction is yuk. Those hoses don't need the protection, so all the braiding is doing is hiding the hoses underneath. Now you'll have to take the hoses and braiding off every time you check the condition of the hoses, and they probably won't get checked very often. At least with the hoses in your face, you'll naturally tend to spot any problems with them. And if you *must* fit pretty overbraiding, can't you at least put some finishers on the ends? Loose braid trapped under jubilee clips looks naff, and if it's purely for looks that seems to defeat the point.

Its personal choice and work in progress if you dont like it fine but dont you have any positive comments to offer an alternative rather than specialising in the negative

No offence meant, just giving an honest opinion.

Inappropriate braided hoses are a particular bugbear of mine. They seem to be one of the first things people do to bling up their engine bay, but in engineering terms they are often a backwards step and make about as much sense as stick-on carbon fibre film to make stuff look 'motorsporty' (yes, you can actually buy that, too).

How about binding the last half inch or so with self amalgamating tape ? this may produce a reasonable copy of the little rubber sleeve that goes under the hose clip sometimes supplied with braided fuel pipes etc. to hide frayed ends ?

Re Jimed's comments on smooth bore pipes, my (original ?) pipes have the strenghening spring/coil thing on the outside so bore isn't that bad but any reduction in resistance to air flow has got to help, although maybe not noticeably ?
Think saw some pictures on here not too long ago using stainless pipes with short silicne hose either end.

I would be suprised if it made much difference being smooth, my logic being that the bore within the flutes still appears larger than the entrance to the plenum chamber and possibly the Airflow meter inlet area as well.

Having looked again it was obvious that the ends needed tidying up (my original plan was to use self amalgating tape but thought the jubilee clip wpould suffice) so went with the original plane and its much better

People always have different tastes, I think they look good. Finishing off the ends has added to the look.
Fair play for taking the time to do it, and then posting the suppliers details for anyone else who does like it.
