I did toy with the idea of the other one Norman. The problem is the VIN number, the scrappage car cannot legally be put on the road.

However, were it bought, stored for a period then an approach made to DVLA with a slightly different number (bear in mind TVR were rubbish at keeping records, for TVRs this is not that unusual) it may be possible to rescue a car that bears an uncanny similarity to the scrappage one. Morally correct, illegal but I think entirely possible to do. This problem may become more common if the scrappage scheme becomes extended and the effect for classic cars feels somewhat 'criminal'.

Wouldn't it be possible to use the 'scrappage' chassis in another car which has a rusted out chassis?

Having done that, what's to stop you from fitting the bodywork etc too?

I thought it was the chassis that the VIN was attached to, in which case I don't see why you couldn't use the scrappage body on the crashed one's chassis (assuming that is still straight of course) as all you are really doing then is changing panels (albeit censored big ones!!!) I think to swap over the mechanicals as well would be pushing it but I really would have thought you could have used the two to make one as long as the written off one was the identity used for the registration and the car underwent the required VOSA inspection following write off dependent upon category (of course all this goes to a ball of chalk if the car was written of at Cat A (and I'm not sure about Cat B)

However I am not a legal eagle and all this is speculation and my thoughts - but who's going to try it then?

Maybe, but in the past TVR have sold complete chassis to repair accident damaged cars so I'd have thought there was some legal way to do it. It would be nice to think you could pull a "grandfather's axe" on it.

Well I guess if the front part of the chassis needed 'replacement' due to damage then the VIN would be lost. rolleyes

That's what I was told when thinking about this (VIN 'attached' to chassis), so the body etc could be used anywhere. If a chassis with a VIN was used, that would sort it nicely. I did wonder what would happen if you got a 'new' chassis?

Yup, I have had about a gazillion enquiries for the indicators
They must be quite rare beasts as I must have sent a dozen sets of those very photos :-)
(and not at all surprised we have had no takers yet!)

I did try and find out what they were originally from to try and obtain some new ones
(looks VERY like an Austin logo? ..but not found anything matching yet)

It's a real shame as it looks mainly like bodywork took the rear end shunt rather than any running gear or chassis damage and its all pretty much there, but unforutnatley cannot go back on the road...thems the rules

I have only just started working at the company and don't have anything to do with the prices before I get slated :-)

Regards
Rob

I have an S1 chassis with a bent front - how about joining the 2??

would it not be a legal rebuild with a repaired chassis?
