Can't afford the Macbook pro - next best alternative?

Hi all,

Had a couple of thread's going regarding my lust for a macbook pro in the past couple of weeks.

I just think it is going to be a little bit out of my price range....

As for the next best alternative can anyone recommend me a decent laptop which will be good for processing my slr pictures on?

I am thinking at least 4gb ram is needed? Is this correct? I would also onbviously need a decent sized HD and a dedicated graphics card (how can i tell if they have one - not sure what to look for here!)

P.S i would say a budget of around £500/600, hope this will get me something decent!

I was looking at a 13" MBP so im sure this would suffice, however 15" wouldn't go a miss!

I'd have thought screen quality was at least as important as size. As far as I'm aware no current laptops have IPS screens (the last was the Lenovo T60P) so they're all less good than a good desktop screen (including the Macbook Pro which has a TFN screen) and some a truly awful. Having said all that I've no idea which has a better than average screen!
