Decent cheap digital cameras
Discussion
Pretty much any compact camera these days will produce decent enough images for most people with decent battery life, and will survive the odd drop and splash of water, but is far from properly shock- or water-proof or DSLR image quality. Also compacts will work fine at night with the built-in flash, but if you're looking for top quality without a flash then again only an SLR with a bigger sensor will work well.
We use a £100 compact at work to photograph bits of test kit and the photos are perfectly good enough for that sort of thing. It's also simple enough that anyone can just pick it up and use it, which may not be the case with an SLR or similar. Also if it gets squished, it's only another £100 to replace it compared with a lot more for something better which would also probably have got squished!
