24 Litre Napier Bentley
Discussion
The Napier Bentley is a vintage racing car; a one-off special built in 1968 by Peter Morley. It was originally built on a Sunbeam Chassis, but after a serious accident was re-built on the chassis of a 1929 8 Litre Bentley. It has a 24 Litre Napier Sea Lion aero engine!!
It's just amasing, here are some photos -

Saw this running at Donington almost 20 years ago, as part of the Richard Seaman trophy, was totaly awe inspiring to see it spinning up the rear tyres as it exited almost every corner. One thing which I particularly remember was that it was beaten in one race by a Morgan 3 wheeler, after an epic duel.

Here it is about 20 days ago At the Bentley Drivers Club meeting at Silverstone last month. Fabulous car. There is a small sticker along the bonnet above the exhaust pipes saying something like "The Ultimate Laxative"

That thing is just bonkers - a proper car if ever there was one!!
ISTR its chain driven & has two gears - "fast" and "utterly mental" - and not much in the way of brakes
I'll never forget watching him on the short circuit at Silverstone coming round Woodcote on the power with the inside rear wheel spinning like crazy & generating a huge cloud of tyre smoke. Then disappearing down the main straight with a thundering roar. By the time the smoke had cleared enough to see Copse at the other end of the straight he'd already disappeared round that & up towards maggotts.
Last couple of times I saw it running he seemed to pass 3 cars down the straight & then get passed by 4 going into the corners - thereby enjoying a gentlmanly rate of progress toward the back of the field! He wasn't quite so hard on the tyres either as he was 15-20 yrs ago.

Lovin that! I can almost hear it from here. I've seen the NR at Brooklands 2008 (in the background on the photo there) It looked massive. Tell me I'm sad but I sprayed my old Westwood lawn mower silver and wrote Napier Railton on the front I'm the John Cobb of lawn cutters in my area.

[/quote]If it uses Castrol R oil, with stub exhaust stacks right in front of the driver that might very well be true!
The Napier -Railton Special is my all-time fave at such events, and the Napier Bentley a very close second: the sound, the atmosphere, the sheer force of Will...and the beautiful chunky engineering
