Is there any way of stopping it doing this? Mine started last night, jump started it and drove it 45 miles, running for about an hour, but it is doing it today apparently, whilst I am 20 miles away at work! Pressing the buttons on the alarm fob makes no difference, so presumably I'll have to jump start again, and given it only held its charge for less than 24 hours, presume its new battery time too.

I think this is because your main battery is practically dead. The Elise has a separate battery supply to the alarm which activates when no or little power is coming from the main battery.

Only way to stop it is a) get a new battery b) remove the battery (before immobiliser and alarm are set) or c) re-charge it.

It sounds like your main battery is unable to hold its charge.....time for a new one!

Halfords have them off the shelf for around £50.

It is possibly the alarm that is killing your battery. The Cobra 5370 unit is mounted above the passengers feet. In it is a seperate rechargeble battery pack, when this gets to the end of its working life it continualy draws current and over a couple of days will kill the main battery.
I am resurching the same problem at the moment.

good theory - I wonder if there is a loose connection because recently there is a new creaky/knocky sound from around there whilst on the move - sounds like expansion/contraction of pipes, but isn't, because it only does it when moving. Can you get at this battery from underneath?

Actually, it was fine all along - wy wife said it was the car that was whining, but it can't have been, hopefully it was just a cat expiring somewhere instead. Good run to silverstone on saturday and sunday should see her back in rude health.
