Tyres for the MX5

Need a couple of tyres for the 5, already recommended from a search on the forums was goodyear eagle ventura i think.... any more recommendations?
I would rather stick to the road more than have lasting tyres if that helps in any suggestions

i personally hate dunlops, michellins are too expensive, jap manufacters always seem quite keen on bridgestones in my experience (honda,toyota,lexus)

Bridgestone RE040 are standard fit on my CTR. They grip like brown stuff to a blanket in the dry, but are fairly poor in the wet. They also have a very stiff sidewall, resulting in lots of road noise.

How about Toyo Proxes? That's what I'll be going for next time. They're relatively soft so wear a bit quicker, but they aren't too expensive either.

Toyo T1s and Goodyear Eagle F1 are the two tyres of choice for the MX5. If you have more money than sense then the Yoko Advan Neova (available from lotus dealers) is a corker and the fave tyre of Bob Hall (on the mx5 design team).


P.S. sorry just saw the wheel size, Yokos ain't ann option!

I second the Toyo's... got them on mine, and they're pretty damn good!!

grippy, good feel, and have stood up to 2 and a half trackdays, and a load of fast-road miles..

Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3s on mine. BLOODY FANTASTIC! grip is phenomenal wet or dry. Softer sidewalls make for slightly slower turn-in however, this affects the Toyos as well. Pump up the air from 26psi to 28-32psi to counter this. try various pressures, as tastes differ (mine are at 30psi).

I recently put Bridgestone Potenza RE720's on my MR2 and the difference in handling and grip, both wet and dry, was phenomenal.

put 2 on the front of my Elan (205/50 15)and been quite impressed so far
