Having just come back from a weekend at Cadwell, I am truly in awe of the L glass that was on display. What kind of lens are we looking at if the user is holding an L lens of around 50cm long and about 20cm wide at the end? I never got around to ask any them, but there were quite a lot of young lads with huge L Lenses and I wondered if they could be hired or whether they were company owned?

500mm x 200mm?.....that's one hell of a lense, even Canon's 600 f4L is around 40mm smaller in both length & width & I would expect to see anything much over the 300mm f2.6L mark to be honest.

The "Bigma" sprayed white? hehe

There's a good table on this review showing sizes:

I'd be surprised if you've measured up accurately. Something 50cm long would be very difficult to use due to weight.

300mm 2.8 was pretty darn popular. Still need big arms mind. Personally I like the 300m f4. Very sharp, a lot cheaper and a LOT lighter!

I was a distance away from where they were but they were holding the camera at arms length. Probably some kind of lens hood over the end so they could grip hold of it?
