Hi all.

I have an Olympus E300 which uses the 4/3 system lenses. I'm now realising the shortcomings of this as there's not as many lens options available as for Nikon & Canon but hey ho, this is my first SLR so I'm still very much learning.

I've been browsing the den of iniquity that is eBay though and I can pick up OM series lenses (macro for example) for little money along with an adaptor ring.

Now obviously I'd lose autofocus & would have to set the aperture manually but is this a viable option?

Is it a case of setting the aperture manually, putting the camera onto shutter priority & away you go?

Cheers - Dunc.

Hi Dunc,
I'm not an Olympus expert but my guess is that the camera will either say 'WTF?' and refuse to work, or be manual only. Hopefully an Olympus expert will be along soon to confirm or deny this.

Manual is not a great problem for macro or studio work when you usually have time to adjust the settings.

(I think 'WTF?' makes quite a good error code hehe )

With the right adaptor the lenses work ok in manual mode

I have had some success with macro tagging a bellows unit onto my E3 with a standard zuiko 50mm lens on

I have a load of lenses for my OM1 OM2 and OM4 so I have had a play focusing and exposure are all manual

I suggest you spend a little and try

The adapter ring will let you use the lens in Manual only, i have used a olympus OM10 lens on my E-410 and it worked well.

I have a 210mm (420mm in 35mm due to sensor size) if you want it you can have it, i don't use it and its sat under my desk gathering dust.

That's what I was hoping. Worth a try then I reckon. If nothing else, it'll help the learning curve.

Certainly wouldn't say no! That'd be very kind of you Sir.
