My car had to spend lastnight out in the rain and its letting me know it isn't happy about it!

Driving home earlier today the speedo needle was going upto 120mph then back to showing the correct speed. (doing 50mph at the time!) Once it had finished doing this it stopped working completely. The needle isn't moving, the LCD isn't showing the current speed and the mileage isn't being recorded. When I use the indicators they're flashing far too quickly and the handbrake light keeps coming on.

You can imagine how much fun I had driving past the scamera's on the M6.

Do any of you know if this just some 'wet bits' or something more serious?

It must have been that hand job you gave it - too much excitement!

By the overwheliming response I've had, I'll take it that you lot don't have the answer to this.

I'm sure I just saw some tumbleweed go by......

I had the same symptoms as with the speedo going haywire and not recording mileage.Turned out to be the speed sensor, nothing major.Never had the other glitches though.
Hope it gets sorted quickly and cheaply.

sounds like a collection of different probs to me, speedo just doing a Tuscan thing: sensor needs cleaning.

indicators: possibly bulb gone ? or fuse needs taking out and putting back in again, or the relay. They don't like getting damp

I think the tumbleweed has something to do with this time of year!

It'll be the speed sensor.

Ther is a speed sensor mod out which Peninsula have just carried out to my 2002 Tuscan with good results, it was behaving like yours. As for the other stuff I doubt if its related to the speedo probs or the tumbleweed

Jo

It souds like the speed sensor's got wet and might sort itself out when dry, and the indicators did that once before and Heath fixed it I think a bulb has blown.

Hope you are a bit happier with the car now, did you get the stereo problem fixed?

I've had the same problem, took it down to HHC and they fixed it no prob. Looks like to speedo sensor had taken a knock on a speed hump and the laser was out of alignment. All sorted in under an hour.

Coincidence, but mine has recently broken. In the end I needed a new sender. All fixed now!

Cheers,

Andy.

Haven't been out in the car since, it has been left in the garage to dry!

Fingers crossed, if it's a dry day I'll take it out tomorrow.

Barefoot..........

The stereo is working now, had to have the cd changer replaced as it seemed to be the root of the problem.

The roof noise has been sorted too.

Thanks again for your help. If we ever get to meet then on me !

mine too, had car since may 03, never seen this before, this morning doing 25mph approaching a roundabout, then the speedo was floating up to 140 down to 60 back up again. righted its self and then 10 miles later did it again. now working normal???

12000 mile service next week, so will leave this with the dealer.
