brake upgrade problem - help required
Discussion
bought new discs (283mm) and 4pot calipers (7R) from different places a while ago and just got round to fitting and guess what - they dont

both discs and calipers were supposed to fit the Sierra Cossy - they do fit individually but not together as the mounting positions overlap - the 'top hat' on the disc is 32.6mm which is very close (within a mm) to the original 240mm disc dimension
any ideas as to how I can sort this out??

I presume this is on an "S"?
Does it have sierra uprights like the Griff/Chim?
If so, many have tried to fit the 2wd cosworth calipers and found that they dont fit. The cosworth had a different upright from the standard sierra. My advice, get some Granada cosworth calipers(2pot) and fit those.

like ant says ^^^ this is a well documented scenario that many have come across in the past.
Been there done that got the T shirt, all because i did not do my homework(most unusual)i also upgraded from the 240mm spec brakes, but settled on the 283mm Cossie discs with the Granny Cossie calipers, lost interest in the overweight 4 pots
I looked at this a while ago, and came to the conclusion it was a lot of messing around to get heavy iron brakes... They can be made to fit the sierra uprights, but it would have required making the flanges much thinner than I was comfortable with.
I picked Focus RS brakes as a solution. The calipers needed a little work with a dremmel to make them fit, but nothing that would compromise the strength. Discs are 326mm.

Concerning the thinning of the lugs i came to the same conclusion I picked Focus RS brakes as a solution. The calipers needed a little work with a dremmel to make them fit, but nothing that would compromise the strength.

nice brake upgrade you have now though
There are loads of 'off the shelf' 4 pot calipers out there now, gone are the days of raiding Austin Princesses (showing my age now).
There seem to be lots of Impreza and Evo brembo calipers on ebay, and the 300zx also has some nice big stoppers too.
Would be interesting to compile a list of sizes and what works and what doesn't.
Certainly cheaper rebuilding a s/h unit to buying a new AP Racing caliper.
Something like this looks very tempting for a project.

I've now purchased AP Racing TVR 4 pot calipers (from an 03 T car) to go with the 283mm discs and will place the cossy calipers back on fleabay
I am having mounting brackets made to fit the APs to the Sierra hubs
I have fitted AP 5200 calipers from a Cerbera with new grooved discs (300mm). I have 16" wheels on the front and these just fit with 9mm spacers and extended studs. The brackets I made from 8mm angle because AP calipers are fitted through the top of the caliper, sort of verticaly, whereas the standard caliper bolts in to the back of the hub, sort of horizontaly. They brakes feel much more flexible and certanly more stopping power.I am having mounting brackets made to fit the APs to the Sierra hubs
