3200 gt servicing and buying advice
Discussion
Guys some advice pease. I am on the verge of buying a nice low mileage 3200 gt, however it does not have a Maserati service history, and needs a service now.
Question is, if I get a service with belts and ask them to carry out all work which may not have been picked up by previous non Maser garage, what is likely cost ? Also is it worth getting the AA to check it out first ata cost of £450

I can't understand someone having a 3200 without FMSH as the car's had the first three services pegged at £600ea. Without this reduction they would have cost roughly £900, £1100 and £1500 for yrs 1, 2 & 3 resp. So how can you save £, not going to a main dealer? [The 3 yr service includes belts]
Also the 3200 has had loads of 'campaigns', ie updates which the dealers have done at services on the quiet. For a car which has not been serviced in the network they may not do these if you take it in. I'd walk unless it is <£20k (seriously, trade on a T or V reg car with 20-25k miles is only £20k if it has FMSH).

It has 9000 miles one owner and is an X reg. I called Maranello today to get a cost for full service inc belts and they want £1700 (which the owner will knock off the price). Verdi will inpsect it for about £350. Still walk away ? Is it better to go for an older one with higher mileage. Maranello's also quoted an staggering £1700 for a warranty, quoting a head gasket scenario at £4000 which started me worrying. Am starting to wonder whether this car could be step to far on a reasonably tight budget. Anyone got any words of wisdom ?
That's prob the right trade price but the Maser network would never buy it off you without FMSH - that said they would'nt buy my 25k mile FMSH 3200GT when I sold it at 4 years old!
I would ascertain whether a Maserati dealer would do all the campaigns (loads) which Maserati UK would pay for. Also you won't be able to extend the warranty due to no service history. The £4k for cylinder head replacement is correct - mine went.
You just have to decide whether to take the risk - for £30-32k you could have a 00 reg 3200 from a dealer with 15-20k miles, a 12 month warranty, FMSH and all the campaigns done. Or buy this one at £26k with low miles, no campaigns done and the risk that it has'nt been serviced on time or properly.
If I did'nt want to buy the dealer margin then I would find a car privately with FMSH, extend the warranty and....great cars(in the dry!).
