Hi all
Is it worth me getting a hard top for the winter on my s2? What are the benefits? And where is the best place to purchase one

mmmmmmm toasty warm!!

i've got one, saves on all the little leaks and it seriously does heat up the inside quicker. (4 months without the girlfriend complaining)

I've got one.

I used it the first winter after I bought the car, but it has stayed in its storage bag ever since.

What about those glorious sunny winter days when you want/need open top motoring only to wish you'd never put your hard top on.

I had a 111s for a while and only put the hard top on occasionally because it was a case of "I own it so I will use it". When I got the 111r I didn't have a hard top and never once missed it.

As for benefits; car looks great with a hard top on, especially if you have stripes and I suppose they are slightly more secure.

Otherwise in back to back comparisons I really only noticed minor differences [both soft tops were insulated by the way].

I had one, used it for one winter, it looked good, but was too inconvenient - I like to drive roof on fine winters day, and its a PITA to put on/take off all the time

...if you dont have the windows aligned properly to the hard top, it can be more leaky than your soft one , usually its either or, you can never seem to get perfect alignment on both roofs simultaneously, so another pain

...so I sold it smile

Only if its an everydayer (like mine), if so I'd say yes and get a good, lined one, i picked one up on eBay, an OEM one, it makes the car as 'comfortable' as any normal car throughout the winter, car looks better, is warmed, no leaks, quieter. Mine goes on in Nov and comes off in March.

YES - I love my hard top. Come the cold weather the lid goes on and stays on till it really warms up. Crazys who like 2 degree wind at 80mph hitting them across the top of the head need to defrost thier brain!

Love my S2 hardtop - goes on around October and comes off in the spring. Not only looks great but absolutely no leaks and I just find it more comfortable for winter use. However, mine came with the car and so I suppose you have to decide whether worth the extra expense (plus respray to match if necessary.

In the winter I have a great coupe, in the summer a fantastic convertable. 2 cars for the price of a roof.

There is a lot to be said for a warm cabin on a winters day especially as I commute in the Liz.
It also looks the puppies privates - see profile pic.

Used to love the hardtop on my black 111S - made such a huge difference. And, most importantly, I thought it looked so much better and sleak than with the soft top on (particluarly on my black car).

Highly recommended, though I should say mine was an everyday car which probably made a huge difference to me.

Does the hardtop really keep the cabin much warmer than a lined soft top? I can't say I've ever noticed the difference.

There's not a massive massive difference, but more so is the noise insulation and generally more "complete" feeling.

No. Utter waste of money. Soft top on mine has never leaked. Only positive is that it can improve the looks but not worth hundreds IMO.

The soft top (or hard top) on mine never leaked either, but it's a huge difference.

I was lucky - I bought my car from a dealer, and things didn't go to plan so they threw in the hard top, I didn't actually intend to buy it. I was so glad they did though as it changed the look of the car and felt a lot more cosy inside; nothing to do with leaks.
