Evening all!

I'm looking to up-grade my mobile to an i-phone (3GS) and have been told that I can play downloaded music through the car.

Does anyone have any experience of this.....and does it depend on the spec of the car?

Got the phone and the car(55 plate) and there is no iPhone socket in the car, and the phone does not play music through the bluetooth. Newer cars might.

If you get a wired ipod connection, you can play music while the phone is connected via bluetooth. If you use the iphone cradle, that merely connects the phone.

It won't do both. Need to plug in to the ipod integration kit (if fitted - replaces multichanger) for music to play out.

Phonebook and dialling is through bluetooth, you can get a snap in plate for the dock for the iphone which will charge it for you.

It will do both, but not through the cradle. You can connect it to the ipod conection and still have it connected by bluetooth to the phone interface.

Ooh yeah, suppose that would work... never bothered doing it as the adapter was in the glove box on the M6 so bought a 120Gb ipod just for the car.

All cars after Jan 06 have an AUX in the glove which you can use for music, just plug the iPhone in to that to play the music, the bluetooth still works fine from there wink

I wouldn't bother with the USB iPod connection kit, from what I played with when I was test driving back at the start of the year the system was sluggish, much easier to just do it on the phone first!

Slightly OT, but does anyone have any experience of a fitting and running a disc drive music storage system in an E60 M5? Excuse my ignorance as I can't remember what the thing's called, but I recall seeing a system a year or two ago which basically stored all your music on a drive in the boot and integrated with the iDrive system. To update your music collection you simply disconnected the drive from the unit in the boot and plugged it into a PC.

I'm pretty sure the system I saw was from the US and wasn't specifically for the E60 M5.

Your cheapest and easiest method would be an iPod of some sort, the iDrive integration is sluggish and hard to access, much easier to just use the iPod smile

Although iPod connection might be sluggish, it does display on Nav screen and you can control music from steering wheel and I-drive.

I prefer setting up an "on the go" playlist before I leave the house, or just get one of those vent clips for the iPod!

Sorry, just trying to save the OP spending cash he doesn't need to wink
