OK, Podie, I've dug out a few underwater piccies that have gone wrong. I've added underneath what the camera settings were, so you get an idea! All the pictures were taken at 200 ISO.

A couple of humbugs underexposed. Yes, I could tweak in PS, but it comes out looking pretty mediocre.

A wreck shot that is all washed out at the top. Exposed correctly up north, it would be totally underexposed down south. This one really went pear-shaped!

An over exposed nudibranch. The white on the top of his noggin is all washed out.

A pair of underexposed nudibranchs

A school of batfish. Taken too far away (damn things kept swimming away from me hehe ), so just didn't come out right.

Doubt there was anything wrong with the settings here, but I suspect the flash bounced off the coral above these angelfish, so never actually got anywhere near them.

White subject (small spotted moray) on a sandy background, taken at night. Even with the settings I had, it was totally overexposed. Grrrr.....

A chufftastically enormous Spanish Dancer (kind of nudibranch) about 10 inches long, taken at night. Problem here was that the subject was too big for the lens (60mm macro) and I had to be about 3ft away from it, which affected not only the exposure but also highlighted the crap in the water (backscatter). Regrettably I didn't get a decent shot of it.

Hammerhead shark at 150ft. Too far away, too dark, you get the drift! wink

f8 @ 1/60th Strobes f8

A coral head in shallow water. I basically over exposed the image...

So, there you have it, a snippet of how it can go pear-shaped. st happens, same underwater as above! Even I'm not infallible! hehe

hope it's of some use!
