A Colleague is having some trouble getting his F450 liscenced to use on the roads here, something to do with the size or classification.

Anybody on here had a similar experience or could you forward a contact who could advise on bypassing the pitfalls?

Cheers for any advice

it will be to heavy empty to be downrated (has to be less than 3250kg's with driver & full tank of fuel) & the design (gvw)weight will be over over 5250 kg so it can not be downrated to be classed as a car, it will have to be registered as a commerial which is a completely different process.
Id register it in holland if you have any major problems

It will NOT be possible to "legally" register a Ford F450 in the UK. Only certain versions of an F350 can be registered here. The only exemptions from the regulations are for the Police who do actually have F450's runnning around London.

I wish it would be possible to get it registered here...but I also was informed that only certain 350's could be registered - but they advised that it was best to stick with 250's etc...

A 450 on the road here would be so cool smile

What's the deal with F350's then? I've got this.....

...on the road, and I don't think they get any bigger.

For example a new 2010 Ford F350 super crew, drw, 4X4 with a diesel engine has a GVWR of 5,715kg, the maximum GVWR allowable for submission to SVA is 5,500kg.

Mine's quoted as 5216kg (on the VIN plate), so just sneaks under. That'll be why then.
Even so, I've had 2 tonnes of sand on the back, and it pulled like it was empty. Better keep away from weighbridges, I reckon.

Provided the GVW is under 6,500kg and the pick up bed is no more than 40% of the overall length of the vehicle it can be tested as a class M1 passenger car and be registered as an MPV.

If it's over ten years old it's exempt from IVA testing. If it's under ten years old and doesn't meet the above criteria there's always the recovery vehicle route as an alternative.

I registered mine by having a demountable camper on it. Hey Presto! It's a motorhome. Much easier.
