Despite searching on here, or a general google, can't seem to get a definitive answer.

Just about to purchase the above lens for my Sony Alpha, however I can't seem to decide what circular polarising filter to purchase. There are so many options out there, different brands (Hoya, Cokin P etc) and then 'models' for example just read about the ultra thin Hoya filter. Is it just a case of the more you pay the better the filter?

Any well priced websites to buy from?
For the lens, best price I have seen is from www.onestop-digital.com, shipped from Hong Kong - anyone had any good experiences with this site? Or PM me with bad ones! Just slightly worried about shipping from HK, and then returns if I have any issues. But at about £50 cheaper than anywhere else, its tempting.

Cheers.

The idea of the ultra slim is to stop vignetting at the wider ends, though if I remember my friends 10-20 he got only a slight vignetting at 10mm with a standard hoya CPL.

Regarding the choice of brands and models I've been researching this a lot the past few weeks for my 10-20. The general consensus is buy the best you can afford as a decent CPL is something you only need to buy once.

Yes, I ordered a 10-20 Sigma from Onestop a few weeks ago, cheapest price by miles and it arrived within a few days even with their standard (free) P&P option. Great service.

Ruari - just a thought, did you have to pay any customs & exercise duty on that? That might bring the costs a bit closer to uk prices! Thanks

With one stop digital there's no duty to pay.

As for a polariser filter on a 10-20mm - don't bother! At wide angles the effect is uneven / patchy - in the end I didn't bother even carrying one.

I realise this is the case with sky, but is it patchy across water too?

I've got a B+W slimfit for mine, used to leave it on pretty much all the time (only because I'm lazy), but Ian's right especially on landscapes with lots of sky at 10mm you get a line of polarisation through the sky rather than the whole sky being polarised. I've taken mine off now and its not going back on.
