TVr Chromaflair paint - Where to get it,

I am in the process of a restoration and would like to spray the car Aquamarine Chromaflair.





I’ve tracked down the car colour and it belongs to BlueThunder who has been incredible helpful.

The colour was supplied Omicron akak Pro-spray.co.uk. They do not have a record of the paint formulation. It appears TVR’s paint was supplied by Cambridge Chemicals that became Pro-Spray. Pro-Spray have a site for the public called http://www.outrageousfinishes.co.uk/

The colour has 2 greens, 2 blues and gold chromaflair.

I am guessing that Aquamarine was a one off colour and might not have been a TVR colour.

There are very few suppliers of Chromaflair and even fewer images of the colours. The other supplier I have found is SpecialistPaints.co.uk.

Does anyone know anymore about the Aquamarine Chromaflair colour in particular the exact formulation?

Sorry about the north Wales tours. I've had the car off and on the road with engine and accident damage.

Have spoken to surface and design in some depth.

I understand that their are two types: - weak and strong. The weak is around £250 ish and the strong around £430. The rage Extreme link given is for CFI-190. This paint is manufactured by Pro-Spray (see above).

But the trouble is there is any clear indication as to colour and the effect of using the weak or strong formulations.

That looks remarkably similar to my Tuscan colour which is Cascade Blue. I was talking to the paintshop at Racing Green the other day about it and it seems it has just gone up in price (are you sitting down) it is now £984.00 per litre.

Was quoted the same sort of price for Reflex Purple paint for my Tuscan from Racing Green, eventually bought some for £520/litre from Surface and Design. The change from solvent based paint to water based was apparently the price difference. Still use RG for spares though and rate their engine knowledge.

take a look at specialistpaint.com they do kits of groundcoat, basecoat and laquer at very reasonable prices.

I also had a similar quote from a good friend who runs a very good body shop near me. Expensive stuff this reflex/cascade malarky. (the few stonechips on the bonnet will remain there for a while !! )

Apparently the solvent (2 pack) paints are now discontinued due to changed legislation although using up existing stock is permissible. I have been advised that the new water based paint is that much more expensive due to the very low quantities likely to be sold and will not precisely match existing solvent paints. The raw paint costs of trying to respray a couple of panels in an original cascade/reflex/etc paint (£1000/litre) are such that a total respray in a modern paint of a similar cascade/reflex type (£250/litre) could be cheaper! I took the view that getting the work done sooner in solvent paint was the best way to go.
Would be interesting to hear from anyone in the 'trade' to confirm if I have understood the situation correctly?

In theory, the water-based paints should match the original shade of solvent paints that the TVR's were originally painted in at the factory. Unfortunately, in reality, this sometimes may not be the case.
The best way to make sure is to locate the correct colour, where possible, in solvent.

Contrary to popular opinion most of the TVR colours are still available in solvent and can be purchased as a quality highly concentrated spray paint, aerosol and even a 15ml touch up for stone chips. These are available from http://www.mbscustompaints.com/tvr-car-paint-c-56....

Brown Brothers Weybridge (paint shop) had the TVR colours when I last went in .. about £250 a litre.
