So time to rejig the front suspension and lower the whole car 2", then fit Fran's Hyd Suspension system......... but don’t forget those sacrificial Wood splitters as they won’t last long.....

An Ultima is close to the limit with 4" ground clearance thats not even 2"..... Road car ye right....NOT

upto the factory to get out there now while the news is hot... even if it is slower people will realise that the ultima you can take down to the shops but the radical might as well be a motorbike.....

yep and you need a sequencial gearbox as well and a non road legal car to beat it guys?????????????????????????????????????????

We just need the factory to go and set a realistic time which will be the bench mark for everyone else to aim for if they have a road legal useable car.... Sorry radical is ok , but its not a road car, its a race car with a number plate...

Either than or the factory release an EVO version,,,,,cool

No Ultima would surpass the Radical time & quite right it is a race car with a plate on. I'm certain with the right set up car & a Ring legend at the wheel the Ultima would be around 7 minutes that no other road car that I know of would beat it let alone get near 7 minutes...

LuckyP, you could test the Ring with a GTR800 or a GTR1000 with no difference against the Radical. It is not a merely BHP matter. I think that the success is in a good power/weight ratio of course but more important is a perfect balanced car.
Forget to bit the Radical's record. They sell the record as achieved with a road car but everybody knows that this is not true.
A realistic 7 mins. or a little bit under 7 mins. (similar to Gumpert Apollo)will be a complete success. And you don't need 800hp to achieve it. wink

I totally agree. I meant fast as in 'fast' not a Nurburgring Champ. A 1000kg Ult with little ground effect is no race car. A Radical is.

With the right Ring Pilot an Ultima with proper set up with around 650 bhp a 7 minute lap I believe would be attained, with 800+ only drivers like the late Bellof etc could maybe get near the Radical it would be some sight. I was expecting the factory 720 last year to breach 7 minutes.

Out of all the impressive magnificent records the Ultima has under it's belt the Ring record would be the most coveted & neceessary to have as the Ring record which seems to be the benchmark throughout the world it's almost like holding the World cup for cars...

The Radical doesn't count, the 'Apollo Creed' mobile would be well annihilated by the factory 720 or similar high powered Ultima...

I think an Ultima could run that Rad close...

It would need some serious preparing ie aero, bhp, gearing and geo but it could do it. The 720 was 4 odd seconds quicker than the Gump on the TG track so im sure it would be suitably quicker at the Ring.

Shaun, do you know any top Ring drivers?? I heard there was a big Northern lad that was pretty quick in his vanclap

The 'forest Gump' is an extremely quick car having seen it perform at the Ring in May 08 & at Spa in June but no match to a sorted Ultima. You are bang on in regards to the two cars around the Top Gear track, around the Ring would be a touch closer though, the Gump would still get walloped in my opinion. To put into comparison the Gump is like the Starship Enterprise that does lightspeed. A sorted Ultima is like the Millenium Falcon as that does point five past lightspeed... I always prefered the Falcon!!!

Seriously, I personally don't know any racing drivers that know the Ring well enough to attempt the Ring record. I have two very good drivers in mind but I doubt they know the Ring as good as I do which is a shame. I know my limitations, as I nearly got the van record BTG last year & was only 10 seconds off in My Vito flooring van before it nearly fell apart, the record is 10.08 that the German lass did on Top Gear in 2005 plus I reckon she only weighs 8 stone I'm double her weight & a touch more, that's my excuse for the 10 seconds off the pace... In addition to that I did a low 8's BTG in a 'tricked' Tuscan S in 2005 on a quiet Monday afternooon & briefly held the World record on GT4 on PS2 for 3 months or so. I certainly couldn't, even dare or try to take a Rocket Ultima around the Ring to get near 7 mins. Fighting Torque & Ten Of The Best type events are within my limitations not tackling full lap Ring records, none of the above qualify me to even think about attempting such a feat, I would have more chance of climbing Mount Everest in a pair of sannies & I won't or can't give up curries...

Kyle,do you think the Radical can be considered as the Ring record holder?

Hi Shaun

It has to be considered as it is road legal and passed all the criteria!! but i know what you mean.

Have you watched the video???... its acceleration and grip are incredible but the Ultima should see more speed on those big straights. I think a mega well setup Ult could go close.

I wonder if the 'road car time'will go much lower in the future?? with road tyres and the other limitations of a 'road car' i cant see it.

I would rather see the Rad hold the record than the Forrest!!!

I'm surprised the Ultima factory hasn't had another crack at it this year...

I heard rumours that they did an unofficial time of 6:54 in practice is that true?

Come on Ultima Sports, show the naysayers that the Ultima can achieve a similar or better time than the Radical! Just do it!

Well heck if we're going non road legal, nothing is touching Stefan Bellof's 6:11 run in a Porsche 956!

The Radical can corner faster and brake later, what little straightline performance advantage a powerful Ultima would have above say 130mph, wouldn't make up for it.

I'd imagine if that Radical did the TG track, it'd be in between the Caparos and Ultimas time.

It's not comparing like for like. The Radical is a very good race car that can be made road legal, the Ultima isn't, it's a road car that looks like an old race car. If one can post a similar time to a Gumpert, that would be very impressive.
