Talking of Vmax
Craig
I've got a Blue plastic coffin prepared & ready.
If I send my email address, do you email a list of prospective runners, or is it just a case of watching the forum ?
Thanks
Russ

Just had a quick look at youtube, and I can't see anything for a Sagaris.
Has anyone done a 1/4 mile or Vmax ?
If so, what times/speeds please ?
Just interested loik

I went up against a Tuscan 2 S (same engine I think) at v max and above 120mph they are bloody quick.

It will all come down to gearing and gear boxes.Has anyone done a 1/4 mile or Vmax ?

I would expect, though I cant substantiate, that a good Sagaris on soft rubber with 3.91 diff and CR box would run mid to high 11s if the driver can launch it correctly and understands his engine.

at vmax I think it was about 171 from memory
If it was the one I was at then the best I managed on that day was 167. The rear spoiler was acting like an airbrake
Do you have a link for the YouTube vid of that day, Craig? My Sagaris appears in it which could be what the OP is looking for.

Using Cartest2000, a 380bhp Sagaris gives :-
12.04 @ 116.8 (3.91 diff and CR box)
12.02 @ 116.37 (3.73 diff and std T5)
11.95 @ 119.6 (3.45 diff and std T5)
11.79 @ 124.37 (4.3 SP6, power as per a dyno I found on PH!)
As to why.....
Well the short gearing wastes too much time with gearchanges. The tall diff allows the car to cross the 1/4 line in 3rd rather than having to change into 4th. These results were all with a 7500 redline. If that's too high, then there would be nothing in it again as the 3.45 car couldn't cross the line in 3rd..
0-60 was coming out 3.94 secs with 100mph in 8.6
From using the sim an engine with a reasonably fat torque curve doesn't actually benefit from more gears! So these results point to the SP6 not being a mega peaky powerplant

Does the fancy software not consider effective BHP then. In real life the difference is huge in the opposite direction to your demo.
Well it has matched Brummie and dbv8 on the strip.Shall I try a 5.0 diff and see what results it gives?
I think you are missing something here. Taller gearing may give less acceleration in each gear, but the gears last longer so it balances out. Too many gearchanges waste time, unless a fancy gearbox is being used, a la Ferrari, Veyron, Nissan GTR.

Maybe see how a car with a 3,46 diff and a standard T5 box 3rd gear ratio as a 1st works out. No gear changes would be quicker?
Do you not doubt the results when they point to the S6 engine being something that maybe has approaching a fat torque curve.

Somewhere there is an optimum figure. dbv8 did 11.7 on the 1/4 mile and as he crossed the line his car was near the redline in 4th. That was optimum. He did not want to be in 3th and the car didn't have the power to be quicker with a taller diff and crossing the line in 3rd.

Oh and we did simulate a 2nd gear start but it wasn't quicker since the grip from his Micky Thompson drag radials more than made up for the wasted gearchange time.

Nonsense! I've wondered if hitting myself over the head with a cricket bat will produce a sensation of pain. I am sure it will but can't be sure, so if you'll excuse me I'll go get some real world experience in the matter!RichardD said:

I'll just agree that the standard diff and gearbox ratios are near optimum for running standing quarter miles then. Just hope no one proves it wrong, what will the software do then.
