Over the last few months I have had some great days out in my S. However, on Sunday returning from some excellent racing at Thruxton I started to get a missfire on one cylinder. Upon examination I discovered that one of the plug leads (the one nearside front -sorry not more technical)had been resting on the exhaust manifold and had melted the outside insulation. The state of the roads near me has made the leads slip in the electrical clip and try as I might I cannot seem to stop this happenning.

I have today ordered a replacement but wondered if anyone has ever brought any heat shields for their leads? I have had a "google" for them and there seems to be a number at different costs around.

Has anyone got any recmmendations?

Are your leads the originals ? Aftermarket items maybe thinner and possibly too long ?

PS nearside front should be No. 4 Genuine Ford/Motorcraft should have the numbers on them and a C on the coil lead

I have got silicone leads from Formula Power. They seem long enough, its just the plug cover brings the lead really close to the manifold.

Are they angled like either of these, some replacements are straight ?

Grey one is Ford, red is Motorcraft. both about 26" long
